There’s a white sand beach near Toronto in a provincial park and it’s a ‘hidden gem’

30 July 20252 Mins Read

Craving a beach day? This is your sign to explore a lesser-known destination in Durham Region, known as Darlington Beach. It’s time to explore Ontario!

The long sandy beach is located in Darlington Provincial Park in the Clarington region, just east of Oshawa. On a good day, it’s a quick 45-minute drive from Toronto.

Beach days at Darlington Beach

The provincial park describes itself as a “hidden gem,” and, based on the gorgeous views, activities, and amenities, we’d have to agree.

“Darlington offers a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, perfect for swimming, on the shores of Lake Ontario,” says the park’s website.

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, there’s also fishing, canoeing, camping, bird-watching, picnicking, and boating. Oh, and of course, there are tons of hiking trails to do at Darlington, too.

Clarington is actually part of Durham Region and is made up of several communities, including Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, and Orono.

The area has a country feel with rural farms and rolling hills, but is quickly transforming with many places to stroll, shop, and dine.

A short drive east of Darlington is the town of Cobourg, which has a sprawling sandy beach backed by a boardwalk with picnic areas, a snack bar, and a splash pad.

It’s the season of exploration here in Ontario, and there are so many lesser-known beaches waiting to be discovered.

Time to start planning your next beach day.

Where: 1600 Darlington Park Rd., Bowmanville
