These Are the 2 Napa Valley Wines You Need to Bring to Thanksgiving Dinner

11 November 20253 Mins Read

If we’re being completely real here, bringing the wine to Thanksgiving dinner might just be the smartest move of the day. While everyone else is stressing over turkey timing, lumpy gravy and oven space, you get to roll in calm, collected and holding the one thing everyone actually wants: something to drink. You don’t have to worry about whether your dish made it to the table hot, or if Aunt Joan’s going to critique your stuffing. Instead, you’re the absolute legend who made the meal instantly better with a good bottle (or two).

Plus, bringing good wine feels thoughtful without signing up for kitchen chaos. And when the table’s full and glasses are clinking, no one remembers who mashed the potatoes, they remember who brought the perfect wine pairing.

For my own Thanksgiving contributions this year, I’m looking to two wines: Lloyd Cellars 2023 Chardonnay and Prescription Vineyards 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, because I like to have both white and red options on the table.

Lloyd Cellars’ 2023 Chardonnay ($42, lloydcellars.com) is a full-bodied wine that’s the kind of Chardonnay which shines alongside roasted turkey (especially with a bit of gravy), mashed potatoes or stuffing with herbs and onions. It also pairs really nicely with sides that have a little sweetness, like roasted carrots, sweet potatoes or even cornbread.

For the red wine lovers, Prescription Vineyards 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon ($30, lloydcellars.com) is where it’s at. Prescription Vineyards is Lloyd’s sister label, and their Cabernet is bold, balanced and full of dark berry and spice. It’s really ideal for the richer, heartier parts of Thanksgiving dinner. I’m talking the darker meat of the turkey and anything with a bit of char or caramelization, like roasted Brussels sprouts.

Where to Buy

On occasion I’ve been able to find Lloyd Cellars and Prescription Vineyards wines at either BevMo or Total Wine in my neck of the woods. However the easiest way to procure your wine is to order directly through the Lloyd Cellars website. They typically ship via UPS or FedEx and your shipping rate will be determined based on your delivery address.

But if you want these in time for Thanksgiving, I’d order sooner rather than later. After all, Nov. 27 is going to be here before you know it. And no one wants to miss the wine.
