Looking for something new to watch the fall? How about something with a familiar background? There is a whole list of movies and TV shows that have been filmed in Seattle, and it goes back to the 1930s.
According to the city of Seattle, “filmmakers have been flocking to Seattle ever since the city’s film debut in 1933’s Tugboat Annie.”
It continues to appear on the big (and small) screen, with popular shows centered around the city (hello, Grey’s Anatomy).
“Seattle has been a backdrop for some of Hollywood’s biggest movies and remains among one of the best cities to film in because of our diverse scenery, commitment to arts and culture and experienced local cast, crew and support services,” says the city.
So with that, let’s have a look at some movies & TV shows that are filmed here, and that you can watch this fall!
The Changeling
Directed by Peter Medak, The Changeling was produced in 1980, and it continues to be a classic horror. With great reviews to this day, it is a must watch this season.

In 1984, John Carpenter directed Starman, which stars Jeff Bridges, in Seattle.

Singles
If you were a teen in the 90s, you may remember Cameron Crowe’s Singles. Set among the Seattle alternative music scene, this movie had it all -romance, comedy, music and drama.

Sleepless in Seattle
Nora Ephron’s 1993 classic Sleepless in Seattle is a must-see! Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks deliver this comedy that really put us on the movie map.

Also in the 90s, Mad Love brought us an adventure with Chris O’Donnell and Drew Barrymore. And it was set in Seattle!

Can’t talk Seattle shows without mentioning Frasier! The whole comedy series is set in Seattle.

Another classic, and one that is perfect for the season! Practical Magic is all about Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, and it was around Seattle.

While the majority of Grey’s Anatomy is filmed in California, the city of Seattle notes that some filming for season 14 and 15 took place here.

Released back in 2022, Zoe Kravitz’s thrilling movie KIMI was partially shot in Seattle.
