These cozy spots and scenic viewpoints in Vancouver are among the most romantic in the city

Whether it’s a hidden cafe, a specific park bench with an underrated view, or stairs that lead to what feels like a secret beach, these are the spots where you can romanticize your life, dream up a new one, or share your time with someone special. With Valentine’s Day coming up this weekend, there’s never been a better time to slow down and explore.

Here’s just a handful of romantic spots to visit in Vancouver.

Indoors

The Federal Store

A quaint luncheonette and grocer slash cafe, The Federal Store is one of those must-visit neighbourhood cafes in Vancouver that feels straight out of a romance novel. The vine-covered building features cozy indoor and outdoor seating nooks that are perfect for people watching or dreaming up your own meet-cute story.

Union Market 

Situated in one of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhoods, Union Market is a must-visit for its pastel de nata and inventive espresso and matcha beverages, as well as its killer sourdough loaves. It always has something new on the menu to try, and the front patio is the perfect place to enjoy a sweet treat.

The Stable House Bistro 

This neighbourhood bistro and wine bar has a cozy covered patio and a larger outdoor seating area (courtesy of the adjacent South Granville Plaza West) adorned in fairy lights, and the indoor space oozes comfort in every corner. Situated in South Granville on West 13th, the intimate spot is the perfect place to pop in for a glass of natural wine.

Le Marché St. George

The quintessential Vancouver spot for traditional French pastries, Croque Monsieur, and other comfort bites. Le Marché St. George is widely known for its aesthetic exterior and intimate interior, and for very good reason. Tucked away behind Fraser Street on St. George, you’ll have no problem romanticizing even the smallest, most mundane life detail here. Plus, there is a tiny library and board games to keep you company.

Marche Mon Pitou

Speaking of French-inspired fare, March Mon Pitou offers guests a deeper look into the Parisian cafe experience without leaving Vancouver. The South Granville spot has several cute outdoor tables with heaters overhead during the colder months, offering the perfect place to enjoy a pastry or savoury brunch meal.

Is That French

This intimate spot is situated in Gastown’s Blood Alley, serving a rotating menu of freshly shucked oysters and local wine. A hidden gem if there ever was one, Is That French gives guests the feeling that they’re in on a secret, with stunning seafood-forward plates that are almost too beautiful to eat.

Cafe Lokal 

Last but certainly not least, we come to the incredibly charming Cafe Lokal on West 4th. The European-inspired eatery not only has a comfy garden patio on the side of the building, but a variety of vintage furniture to lounge on inside. The cafe also has a daily happy hour and regular live jazz nights, and its next event is coming up on Valentine’s Day.

Outdoors

Habitat Island 

It might be overcome by swarms of people and their late-night drinks come summertime, but Habitat Island (that random “island” in the middle of False Creek) is a super neat spot to tuck yourself away in. While most of Vancouver might be in on this “secret” viewpoint, it somehow always feels intimate, perfect for watching the sunset and having a deep talk.

Acadia Beach

If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to Jericho and Spanish Banks, Acadia Beach by UBC partially faces open ocean, and it’s a beautiful spot to unwind by the water. There are plenty of washed-up logs and giant boulders to sit on, and if you decide to go on a low-tide stroll, you’ll end up at the Spanish Banks Off Leash Dog Area, which is just as scenic!

Jean Beaty Park

With stunning views of English Bay and the North Shore Mountains, this tiny, underrated park includes a steep stairway that leads to the rocky beach below, offering the perfect opportunity to relax by the water, reflect, or enjoy your date’s company in a more secluded environment than one of the busier beaches.

Cates Park Beach

Cates Beach is North Vancouver’s largest waterfront park, perfect for sitting and enjoying the view, picnicking, or paddling and swimming during the warmer months. Its calm waters are a soothing backdrop, and you’ve got access to plenty of surrounding trails that weave through the forest.

Hastings Mill Park

Situated between Jericho Beach and Kits is Hastings Mill Park – home to Vancouver’s oldest surviving building, Old Hastings Mill Store Museum. The small but scenic park makes up for its size with stunning ocean views, where you can often spot sailboats, paddleboarders, and even seals, if you play your cards right.

Vanier Park

For ocean access minus the sand, head to Vanier Park. There’s plenty of space to sprawl out in the grass for a picnic, or benches to admire the panoramic views of Kits Beach, downtown, and the North Shore.
