These magical Alberta boardwalks offer an incredible view

11 June 20253 Mins Read

‘Tis the season for scenic views and sunshine! In the summertime, there is no place quite like Wild Rose Country, especially if walking is your favourite form of transportation. From towering trees to majestic mountains, there is no shortage of things to do and places to experience, but there’s something extra special about seeing it all from an Alberta boardwalk.

Here are just a few that you can explore this season.

Located in Banff National Park, the Cave and Basin is considered the birthplace of Canada’s National Parks. Here, you can see the famous underground hot spring, learn about the area’s history, and follow the boardwalk through the site.

Where: 311 Cave Ave., Banff, Alta

Have a weekend to get away? With over 230 species of birds, towering trees in an old-growth forest, and a beautiful boardwalk through it all, the Miyo Mahkamikisi Trail is a must-visit, but don’t forget a bathing suit! The nearby beach is the perfect way to cool off after your adventure.

Where: Lac La Biche, Alta. – Directions here

Short and sweet. Located on Astonin Lake, the Living Waters Boardwalk takes about 30 minutes to complete, but offers some beautiful views, fresh air, and, if you’re lucky, a peek at the Elk Island wildlife.

Where: Directions here

With birds, beavers, and stunning wetland views, Michichi Creek in the Alberta Badlands is another incredible place to take a walk this sunny season. Lace up your shoes and get out there. You never know what you might see and when.

Where: AB-849, Munson, Alta.

Located in St. Albert, this beautiful trail plays an incredibly important role in preserving Wild Rose Country’s wildlife. Here, see birds, ducks, trees, and the sky’s reflection off of the aptly named Big Lake.

Where: Directions here

A local favourite, Policeman’s Creek, is located in Canmore and runs alongside the ponds and forests, where local wildlife swim and graze. Here, you’re in for quite the treat.

Where: Bow Trail Road, Canmore, Alta.

Up above the world so high, the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk is another must-visit. To get there, hike or take the Banff Gondola to the top, then follow the wooden planks up and over the mountain. There’s truly no place quite like it.

Where: Directions here

Located in Hinton, this is one of the most impressive destinations on the list. With more than three kilometres of seating areas, interpretive signs and walkway, this particular spot is widely considered the longest freshwater boardwalk in the world, and boy, does it deliver. From trees to animals, it’ll be a feast for your eyes.

Where: 408 Collinge Rd., Hinton, Alta.

Which one of these Alberta boardwalks will you be visiting this summer? Let us know in the comments or tag us in your pictures. We can’t wait to see you all out and about.
