These scenic Ontario road trips are perfect for a spring getaway

10 March 20265 Mins Read

Spring is here – well, at least it feels like it. And if you’re like us, you like to plan ahead, especially when it comes to trips. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy the beauty of Ontario. That’s why we put together a list of beautiful small towns in the province that you can visit this spring.

Take a look!

Not too far from the city, Belfountain is a charming little town located in Caledon. It’s right here in the GTA, about an hour away from Toronto.

Drive along the scenic Forks of the Credit Road and arrive in the small but picture-perfect town.

Sip coffee on the patio, do a little shopping, and be sure to check out the stunning suspension bridge at the Belfountain Conservation Area.

Known as The Valley Town, Dundas, Ont., is nestled at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment and surrounded by vast forests and waterfalls.

According to Tourism Hamilton, Downtown Dundas is home to amazing restaurants, cafes, stunning shops, and is just minutes away from gorgeous waterfalls and trails.

Get out and stretch your legs on one of the many hikes and lookout points in the region before making your way into town for some shopping and food.

Did you know that this small town in Ontario’s Grey County was once named one of the prettiest towns in Ontario? This quaint community boasts historic stone buildings, beautiful antique shops, restaurants, and a brewery.

If you’re visiting Neustadt, take a stroll down Mill Street. The stone buildings on this street are part of what makes Neustadt so pretty.

And while you’re strolling Mill Street, head into the beloved Granny’s General Store. You’ll find an ice cream bar, baked goods, and even a garden centre.

Do you know what makes a good day trip getaway from Toronto? Wine. Do you know what Niagara-on-the-Lake has? Wine.

It’s home to dozens of world-class wineries, award-winning spas, one of North America’s largest repertory theatre companies, storied historic sites, and a fresh farm-to-table dining scene, according to its official site.

It truly is the place to be in any season.

Right in Bruce County, this village in Ontario is full of rich history, a stunning conservation area, and spots to dine.

Take a stroll down Queen Street to see even more of what Paisley has to offer, including their cute, local shops.

Grab local arts and crafts from Elora Soap Company, timeless antiques from Roadrunner Collectables, or jewellery and home decor from Della Bella Boutique. All these shops are located conveniently on Queen Street and within walking distance of each other.

Of all the places you could visit in Ontario, The County is one of a kind. Views of rolling hills, historic townships, vineyards, and the pristine shorelines of Sandbanks Provincial Park will make this road trip extra special.

Make sure to stop by a local winery for a tasting, peek at an antique store, and pick up some fresh local goodies for the drive home.

You won’t want to miss it.

For a charming day trip, head to St. Jacobs, a quaint former village in the Waterloo area known for its farmers market.

According to the village, it has a “rich Mennonite heritage” with a plethora of unique shops, art centres and galleries. The town is nestled in a beautiful natural setting that serves as a perfect backdrop as you sip on a hot cup of coffee or a refreshing drink at one of its many restaurants, cafes and bakeries.

Spend the day strolling through the streets, learning about the history, and shopping at Canada’s largest year-round farmers market.

This art-centric village is surrounded by the rolling Trent Hills, and it’s the perfect destination for a spring day trip.

Located just 90 minutes east of Toronto, the charming town of Warkworth hosts an annual celebration of lilacs that draws visitors from around the province.

“Cosseted by seven picturesque hills, Warkworth is both a farming community and a centre for the arts,” boasts the village. “Stay overnight in either a B & B in the village or out in the country. Hearty fare is available in our local restaurants, and lighter repasts are offered in a stylish coffee house.”

And there you have it! The spring season came early, and we’re not disappointed. Go out on a road trip and explore.
