This 72-foot waterfall in Ontario drops into a massive amphitheatre

16 October 20252 Mins Read

Who wants to go chasing waterfalls?! Come on, the joke writes itself. Before winter arrives (which will happen before we know it), you have to squeeze in at least one day trip with autumn views. DeCew Falls, located in St. Catharines, stands at 72 feet with three flowing cascades, and this time of year, it’s surrounded by bursts of orange, yellow, and brown foliage.

DeCew Falls is about a 90-minute drive from Toronto, and you can access the stunning natural wonder at Morningstar Mill. From there, the trail to get to the falls is a relatively easy hike. The trail loop of Decew Falls takes you past the waterfall and then to the historic Morningstar Mill at the top.

According to Info Niagara, DeCew Falls “cascades 22 metres (72 feet) into a bowl-shaped amphitheatre just behind the mill.”

If you’re walking along where the falls are, proceed a few hundred metres east on the Bruce Trail to find a spot to enter the gorge. Beside the main falls is what some refer to as “Tunnel Falls”. While the cascade is much smaller, it’s still pretty cool and worth checking out in my opinion.

Finally, as you head downstream, you’ll see DeCew Falls.

The falls are usually busiest during the summer, so fall is a really great time to check them out. Plus, you won’t sweat your butt off.

DeCew Falls

Where: 2714 Decew Rd., St. Catharines, Ont.
