This floating boardwalk in Ontario feels like a fall daydream

18 September 20253 Mins Read

Scenic views, outdoor walks, and out-of-town adventures – what more could you want?! If you’re all about exploring Ontario’s bountiful landscapes, we have one trail that might be up your alley. If you find yourself in Ontario’s Muskoka region, check out Hunters Bay Trail for a long and leisurely hike through a boardwalk that looks as if it’s floating on top of the water.

Located right in Huntsville, this is said to be one of the most amazing hikes in the whole area.

Floating boardwalk

Per Muskoka Tourism, the Hunters Bay Trail is a walking, running and cycling trail that spans 4.6 km in length.

Your journey begins at the Centre Street bridge near Uponor and heads along the river, under the railway trestle, down the south side of Hunters Bay, through Avery Beach Park and under the Highway 11 bridge to East Airport Road.

This trail is an easy walk with scenic views, offering perfect photo opportunities of Hunters Bay.

According to Muskoka Tourism, the Hunter’s Bay hiking trail is unlike any other trail in Muskoka. “This 3.6km urban trail has a little bit of everything; riverside views, orchards, wooded trails, beaches, and over 500m of floating boardwalk over the waters of Hunter’s Bay,” shares the group. And that’s what stands out the most.

The floating boardwalk is definitely the main attraction of the trail. It’s actually part of The Great Trail, which is the world’s longest network of multi-use recreational trails that extends from British Columbia to Newfoundland and up north to the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

This trail network connects 24,000 km of trails and 13 provinces and territories and is described as a  “marvel of Canada’s vast landscapes,” according to Discover Muskoka.

If you’re looking to plan out your summer adventures, make sure to add this to your list. There’s so much to see and experience in this beautiful part of Ontario, you’ll love it.
