New York is famously one of the most eye-wateringly expensive cities in the world. Everything from eating out to theatre tickets can set you back a small fortune, and hotels often have the highest price tag of the lot – trust us, there are some rooms in this city costing more than a month’s rent.
A cheap room in the Big Apple that doesn’t resemble a serial killer’s lair, then, can seem like a pipedream. But you’d be wrong. Affordable hotels that are smart, clean and actually quite nice do exist – just look at ‘s list of the best budget-friendly hotels in New York. All of them cost under $215 for the night and, we promise, don’t include literal skeletons in the closet.
ICYMI: This hotel officially has the best view in New York.
The number one spot was claimed by Radio Hotel in Washington Heights, just north of Upper Manhattan. With its eight differently coloured sections stacked like Lego, it’s a rather striking addition to the neighbourhood. As for what to expect inside, our reviewer says it’s ‘modern, clean, has a really good restaurant, and won’t set you back anywhere near as much as the average hotel south of Washington Heights’.
Location-wise, it might not be in central New York, but it’s got plenty of transport connections to Midtown.
The real draw is the hotel’s very own slap-up restaurant, Jalao NYC, a Dominican eatery named after a coconut-and-honey dessert. ‘It captures the flavor of Washington Heights’ Little Dominican Republic,’ writes our reviewer.
So, if you’re planning to visit New York on a budget sometime soon, Radio Hotel sounds ideal, right? You can read more about it in our full review.
