This new outdoor escape room in Calgary drops you into a dark village mystery

2 July 20263 Mins Read

Where Dark Things Dwell is a new outdoor escape room experience at Heritage Park, and it’s easily one of the most unique experiences launching in Calgary this summer.

Instead of being locked inside a single room, you’re dropped into a full live-action storyline that is set across the entire historical village, where something mysterious unfolds, and it’s up to your group to figure it out. You’ll move through different spaces, follow clues, and try to figure out what’s actually going on before time runs out.

Step inside the story

Once you arrive at the Park, you’ll be split into groups of about three to four people, and you’ll work together as a team to follow clues and figure out what’s going on as the story unfolds.

According to Heritage Park, the experience is set in a village overtaken by dark forces through strange rituals, and it’s now your job to help stop an unspeakable evil before it’s unleashed.

Guided by live actors, you’ll move through shadowed outdoor streets, uncover hidden clues, and race against time as the story unfolds around you. It combines live theatre, escape-room-style puzzles, and an outdoor adventure that feels unlike anything else in the city.

What to know before you go

Where Dark Things Dwell runs from Friday, July 3, until Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, with evening time slots available throughout the week. Games typically run from Thursday through Saturday at 8 and 10:30 p.m.

Tickets are $54.95 per person, and guests are placed into groups before the experience begins. And don’t worry, you don’t need to arrive with a full team of people; you’ll be grouped up with other participants on-site, so everyone can take part, even if you’re coming solo.

Since it’s a new experience, spots are expected to fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so it’s definitely one you’ll want to plan ahead for if you’re interested.

The experience is recommended for ages 12 and up, as some parts of the storyline can feel a bit intense or spooky for younger kids. Because of that, it’s better suited for teens, adults, or families with older kids who are comfortable with darker, more mysterious content.

Because the experience takes place outdoors throughout the park, comfortable shoes are a must, and it’s worth dressing for the weather, as it can get a little chillier when the sun sets.

So if you’re ready to put your detective skills to the test, this is your sign to step into the mystery at Heritage Park!

When: Running from Friday, July 3, until Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: Sunday games start at 8:30 p.m.; Thursday, Friday and Saturday games run at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Where: Heritage Park – 1900 Heritage Dr. SW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: $54.95 plus GST
