This Nordic centre in Alberta has over 35 km of cross-country ski trails

30 December 20252 Mins Read

‘Tis the season for a high noon holiday ski, and Hinton Nordic Centre is calling your name.

Hinton Nordic Centre has over 35 km of expertly groomed trails for skating and classic skiing, a large rustic day lodge and a biathlon range for all that winter charm. Recently, the trails have even been upgraded to make your ski experience that much better.

Located just one hour east of Jasper and 20 minutes north of Hinton, Alta, this wonderful and scenic natural area can be found within William A. Switzer Provincial Park. Snowshoeing is even permitted in some areas, which also includes a biathlon range, telemark hill, and warm up shelters.

These trails are lovingly maintained by Hinton Nordic Skiers, so you know they’ll be some of the best around, and definitely skier-approved.

Hit the slopes

The ski centre updates trail conditions daily on their website, so you can stay in the loop on changing weather conditions. Or you can watch the webcam to see for yourself what to expect when you arrive.

Hinton Nordic provides regular status updates on Nordic Pulse detailing skate lane conditions. If you’re a serious skier, this is absolutely the place to be.

The Hinton Nordic Centre is operated by the Hinton Nordic Skiers as a non-profit, volunteer-run cross-country ski club. They rely on funding from Nordic club memberships, day-use passes and volunteer effort. You can purchase an annual membership for $105 to support the club, or pay a $10 day-use fee per day for ages 12 and up.

Hinton Nordic Skier was incorporated as a not-for-profit society in 1975, so you know they know their way around the slopes. This incredible series of tracks and trails is provided by a group of dedicated volunteers, passionate about sharing the pursuit of Nordic skiing.

It’s a healthy, enjoyable and environmentally-friendly way to get outdoors this season. We can’t wait to check it out!

Where: Yellowhead County, Alta.
How to get there: Drive 5 hours and 34 minutes northwest of Calgary via Highway 20, or 3 hours west of Edmonton via Highway 16.
