Time has released its list of World’s Greatest Places for 2025, taking readers around the globe in their selection of the best “one-of-a-kind spots and experiences.”
According to Time, “Each year, Time solicits nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences. The result: 100 extraordinary destinations to stay and to visit this year.”
For 2025, only one Canadian place was selected and it’s right here in Ontario: The Canadian Canoe Museum.
Located in Peterborough, Ont., The Canadian Canoe Museum boasts the world’s largest collection of paddled watercraft, kayaks and canoes, more than 600.
As Time describes it, “Newly reopened in a 65,000-square-foot building that is now, aptly, located lakeside, The Canadian Canoe Museum’s design evokes the hull of a canoe and is undoubtedly an aesthetic upgrade from its previous home in a former outboard motor factory.”
The property sits on 5.3 acres of waterfront, including a shoreline with docks and boardwalks that serve as “a launching point to explore Little Lake and the Otonabee River, both part of the 240-mile Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site that winds through Ontario.”
If you want to hit the water, paddlers can do so at the museum from May through October at the museum’s Canoe House, as well as take a guided tour through a 36-foot canoe!
Half a dozen exhibits await, breaking down the engineering and craftsmanship of the vessels, too.
As for the list of the World’s Greatest Places, some of the other spots include:
- Populus: Denver, Colorado
- HX Grand Greenland: Nuuk, Greenland
- Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe: Ensenada, Mexico
- The Viewpoint Hotel: York, Maine
- The Radical: Ashville, North Carolina
- NHM Commons: Los Angeles, California
- Nintendo Museum: Uji, Japan
- Gerbou: Dubai
- Dogon: Washington, D.C.
- Bluey’s Word: Brisbane, Australia
- Little Village: Detroit, Michigan
Do you think Time missed any other Canadian spots on this year’s list of World’s Greatest Places?
