If heights aren’t an issue for you, there are tons of breathtaking hikes to embark on in B.C. this spring. This includes the famed Myra-Bellevue Trestles, situated 24 km from downtown Kelowna at a provincial park with the same name. Known for its sweeping views of Little White Mountain, the Myra Canyon below, and the surrounding Okanagan Valley, the trail follows the historic Kettle Valley Railway, which first operated in 1915, according to Destination B.C.
Today, the decommissioned railway tracks are home to a recreational trail spanning Hope to Castlegar, providing nearly 650 km of connected pathways to explore.
At Myra-Bellevue Park, 18 trestle bridges and a handful of tunnels line your journey, with beautiful foliage and seasonal colours stretching as far as the eye can see.
Those who’d rather pay homage to the railroad’s past can embark on a scenic train ride through Kettle Valley, which returns May 11, 2025 and runs on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays until October 13, 2025.
While the park is open year-round, park services will be available starting mid-April, according to B.C. Parks.
Finally, if you’re looking for a beautiful drive to add to your trip itinerary, it’s worth it to head to Kelowna after exploring the trestles. According to Tourism Kelowna, the 40-minute drive takes you past farms, orchards, vineyards, and golf courses, all the while giving you a front-row seat to B.C.’s emerging spring colours.
Myra-Bellevue Park can be accessed via two points off of McCulloch Road: Myra (the main access) and June Springs. The protected area encompasses KLO Creek to Bellevue Creek and up to Saucier Creek and Canyon Lake, with a large exclusion in the centre that B.C. Parks says locals refer to as “the donut.”
