‘This Summer Will Be Different’ is being made into a series and it’s filming in Toronto

19 March 20263 Mins Read

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Carley Fourtune book lovers — our time has come. Netflix has announced that not only is the best-selling novel This Summer Will Be Different being made into a 10-part series, but it’s also being filmed in Toronto (and PEI).

“The 10-episode series will be filmed in Toronto and on PEI, and it was created by Dane Clark (Suze, One More Time) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North). It’s executive produced by Clark, Stewart, Fortune (Every Summer After, Our Perfect Storm), and Jennifer Kawaja (Sort Of, Wayward) and Elise Cousineau (Cardinal, Small Achievable Goals) for Sphere Media,” Netflix shared in a recent press release.

The story takes place across a series of summers where Lucy, a 20-something-year-old navigating the changes of life, falls in love with her best friend’s brother, “the one person she was never supposed to fall for.”

According to Fortune, the inspiration for the book came from a visit to Prince Edward Island in her twenties.

“I fell in love with Prince Edward Island first in the pages of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables and again when I visited with my best friend in my early 20s,” Fortune shares

“That vacation, the beauty of the island, the warmth of its people, and the friendships that sustain us are the foundation of This Summer Will Be Different. I’m thrilled to bring this sweeping love story to the screen with Netflix and to transport audiences to the glittering shores and windswept beaches of PEI.”

More news about the series will come out soon, Netflix assures fans, and there may even be some sneak peeks dropping in the future, too.

If you haven’t read any of Carley Fortune’s books, now is the time to get caught up. Some of her other biggest titles include:

  • Every Summer After
  • One Golden Summer
  • Meet Me at the Lake

Happy reading, and keep your eyes peeled for film sets, Toronto.
