This traditional powwow in Calgary will celebrate Indigenous culture, song and dance

8 September 20252 Mins Read

Inn From the Cold has presented its annual Kiitaamoko O’passkaan Powwow for three years and counting, and 2025’s event is bound to be brighter than ever.

The Kiitaamoko O’passkaan Powwow (anglicized, “Everybody Dance”) is a high-energy community celebration showcasing Indigenous culture through song and dance.

Calgarians are invited to attend this traditional powwow, where inspiring dancers and drum groups will showcase their skills.

The event aims to unite the community, providing a safe place for celebration, cultural connection and education. If you’ve never experienced the sounds and colours of a traditional powwow before, this is your opportunity!

What to expect

Calgary residents are invited to join the dance on Sept. 13 and experience the heartbeat of the drum at this uplifting, Indigenous led event.

Located at the Harley Hotchkiss Gardens in downtown Calgary, the Powwow will be led by head staff Kent Ayoungman (Siksika Nation), Sheldon Scalplock Sr. (Siksika Nation), Elder Moses Spearchief (Kainai Nation), and Elder Jackie Bromley (Kainai Nation), who have been selected for their exemplary skills and dedication to the community.

Inn From the Cold is committed to honouring and valuing Indigenous worldviews and making events like powwows accessible to families and the wider community.

The Powwow event aligns with both the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and the Principles of Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a great opportunity to forge meaningful connections with local Indigenous communities. Elders, families, community members, donors, local businesses and artisans will all unite at the Kiitaamoko O’passkaan Powwow, laying the groundwork for future reconciliation efforts.

All of Calgary is encouraged to attend this event, which will include traditional dance, drumming and ceremony. A free BBQ will also be offered, giving everyone the opportunity to gather in community.

When: Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025
Time: Noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Harley Hotchkiss Gardens — 611 4th St. SW
Cost: Free
