This Week’s ‘SNL’ Boasted a Nonstop Carousel of Celebrity Cameos

When it was announced that the iconic popstar Charli XCX would serve as both host and musical guest for Saturday Night Live this week, we knew she would create an equally iconic episode, and that’s exactly what she did. From her hilarious opening monologue (“I want to take a moment to thank someone who has been that for me my entire career: autotune.”) to bringing back the fan-favorite “Domingo” skit, the BRAT singer delivered on all fronts, but she didn’t do it alone.

Charli not only had the help of the SNL cast, but she also had the support of some incredible celebrity guests. During her opening monologue, she was joined by former cast member Kyle Mooney who had some concerns over whether or not he is “brat.” Charli asks, “What’s your favorite kind of drug?” Mooney’s response: “I take Claritin.” Unfortunately for Kyle, allergy meds do not a brat make.

Later on in the show we were treated to another celebrity surprise when actor and it girl Julia Fox showed up to introduce Charli’s first musical performance of the evening, “360.” Seeing as Fox is the inspiration behind one of the song’s most memorable lines (“I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia”) it only felt right to have the Uncut Gems actor present for this electric performance. Fox was even impersonated later in the show by Chloe Fineman. A shame we didn’t get a dueling Julia’s showdown.

After the results of last week’s election, it seemed like we wouldn’t be seeing Andy Samberg (who played Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff) for some time, but to our surprise, he returned again this week to deliver a brand new head-bopping song featuring Charli XCX. Samberg’s Lonely Island collaborated Akiva Schaffer also showed up in the short. It seems like everyone wanted to work with the pop icon, and we’re glad they did because this song about calling the police on your neighbors is going to be stuck in our heads for the rest of the week. Sorry, but the line “Piggy, piggy/ Babe in the City” goes hard AF.

And even though Charli didn’t appear in this week’s cold open, it didn’t stop the celebrity cameo train from rolling through. Alec Baldwin returned to the show for the second time this season, playing Robert F. Kenney Jr. and roasting the newly appointed head of Health and Human Services, while Dana Carvey popped back in as President Joe Biden. 

This week’s episode also saw Dean Winters show up in an SNL x All State crossover as Mayhem, and eagle-eyed fans spotted SNL alum Punkie Johnson at the goodbyes as well. Seemingly everyone wanted to be brat this week.
