TikTok Partners with Booking.com to Book Hotels Directly Through the App

TikTok has introduced a new feature that allows users to book hotel accommodations directly through its app. This development is part of a collaboration with Booking.com. The integration enables TikTok users to input check-in and check-out dates and book available rooms at specific hotels. Each hotel featured on the app has a dedicated landing page providing detailed information, including prices, amenities, reviews, and related TikTok videos about the property. Users can also tag these hotels in their videos, enhancing the visibility and engagement of the properties.

TikTok Go: Creator Monetization Program

In addition to hotel bookings, TikTok has launched a creator monetization program in the United States called TikTok Go. This initiative allows local merchants, including hotels, to pay creators a commission or offer vouchers for promoting their business. To qualify for TikTok Go, influencers must have at least 1,000 followers, be at least 18 years old, and maintain an account in good standing. Creators participating in the program can set their location and view a list of tasks from hotels or other venues like restaurants. By completing tasks such as posting a video, creators can earn commissions if they drive sales.

Expansion of E-commerce Activities

The introduction of hotel bookings on TikTok is part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance e-commerce activities within its app. TikTok has heavily invested in its shopping tool, TikTok Shop, and has developed various Yelp-style products for local businesses. The platform relies on influencers to promote products in videos, offering them a commission on sales. This approach is expected to open new revenue streams for travel influencers.

Impact on Travel Influencers

The TikTok Go program could significantly impact travel influencers by providing them with new opportunities to earn commissions. Travel creator Amanda Dishman, who runs a family blog called Salty Vagabonds, expressed enthusiasm about the program. She noted that the barrier to earning commissions has been significantly reduced, making it more accessible to a broader range of creators. As TikTok continues to gain popularity as a search tool among Gen Z users, the company has also introduced a “Places” tab for discovering new destinations and activities. Users can leave reviews and earn badges for being a “local explorer.”

TikTok’s move into hotel bookings follows its earlier initiatives to facilitate bookings for concert and movie tickets through partnerships with providers like Ticketmaster and Fandango.
