Tim Hortons was just named one of the biggest coffee chains on earth, Canada Reviews

Right on the heels of the wild Harry Potter popup that transformed the North York location at 815 Caledonia Rd., Tim Hortons is going viral online again — this time on a global scale.

A viral graphic posted by Instagram account @vgraphsinsta is currently making the rounds for mapping out the 20 largest coffee chains on the planet by total store count.

Pulling data directly from official investor websites, company reports, financial filings, and industry sources like the World Coffee Portal, the visual places Canada’s beloved double-double empire at number five globally with a massive 6,015 locations.

While Starbucks predictably dominates the list in the top spot with over 40,000 stores worldwide, Timmies actually outranks massive international heavyweights like the UK’s Costa Coffee (#8) and U.S. favourite Dutch Bros (#17). The only brands sitting ahead of Canada’s coffee giant are Dunkin’ at number three, alongside Chinese coffee behemoths Luckin Coffee (#2) and Cotti Coffee (#4).

What surprises most locals is that while Canada houses roughly 4,000 of those locations, the rest of that massive footprint is scattered across international markets like China, the UK, India, and the Middle East — where the brand aggressively expands under parent company Restaurant Brands International.

Naturally, the comment section had plenty to say. Some local coffee snobs roasted the quality and pointed out that having thousands of locations doesn’t necessarily mean the espresso is any good. Others were genuinely surprised to learn just how big the brand is around the world.

For a company that started as a single donut shop in Hamilton in 1964, it’s a pretty big deal. Canada’s go-to coffee run has become one of the biggest coffee chains on the planet.
