TLC just announced a new reality show called Polyfamily—and the network firmly divided viewers in the process.
On March 17, TLC revealed its upcoming series featuring a polyamorous family. The closed quad includes two married couples: Alysia and Tyler, who have been married for two years and had two kids before joining up with another married couple, Sean and Taya.

After becoming a family, Alysia gave birth to her third child. Taya had one baby during their closed quad and is pregnant with her second.
“With five kids in the picture, things are bound to get complicated, especially since the biological father of the three younger kids remains unknown,” TLC teased in a news release shared with Parade.
“The quad has intentionally chosen not to find out who the father is to avoid jealousy and remain committed and equal parents—which they discover is much easier in theory than in practice,” it continued.

In a trailer for Polyfamily shared on Instagram, TLC fans weighed in on the show’s concept.
One person wondered, “How do yall find these ppl 🤨,” as another wrote, “I beg your pardon.”
“Did we learn nothing from Sister Wives?” someone else asked.
Yet another critic shared, “This is a disaster waiting to happen..you want to live like this? Ok its your life but consciously making more children and not knowing who the father is insane. At least have kids with your own husband so when you break up everybody can take their own kids and leave.”

However, others were excited about Polyfamily.
One enthusiastic supporter wrote, “I’ve been following this family for a while. I had no idea they were filming this TLC show. So happy for them! So impressed constantly by their honesty and vulnerability and exponential love for their children. ❤️❤️❤️.”
Another echoed, “SO excited for this!! Love them and following them for awhile. Such a wholesome family 😍.”
A different Instagram user declared, “Another banger from TLC ☺️ this is why I love reality series !!!!”
Someone else exclaimed, “So excited for this!!! Love the visibility for Polyam Families 👏👏👏.”
Elsewhere in the news release, TLC hinted at “complex parenting dynamics” and “emotional challenges” between non-romantic partners Taya and Alysia and Tyler and Sean.
“Things get even more complicated when later in the season Taya drops a bombshell that threatens to dismantle their fragile family dynamic,” the network teased.
Polyfamily premieres on April 29 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC and the next day on Max.
