Tom Holland Struggled to Buy His Own Non-Alcoholic Beer: 'Couldn't Prove My Age'

19 February 20253 Mins Read

Tom Holland‘s youthful good looks worked against him recently when he tried to buy his own brand of non-alcoholic beer, Bero.

The British actor, 28, documented his hilarious misadventure in a series of videos shared to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

“So I haven’t been in the [United] States for a while,” the Spider-Man star said as he walked through a parking lot. “And I’m gonna go visit some Bero on the shelves, out in the wild.”

In the next clip, Holland was inside the store.

“This is the second Target I’ve been to because the last one I went to actually didn’t have it,” he explained. “Not the best marketing.”

Unfortunately, Holland had “no luck” at the second Target either.

“The hunt continues,” he said as he headed to another Target. “I will find some today.”

The third Target location he visited was the most promising.

“This is a bigger Target, so I feel more hopeful,” he said.

Indeed, Holland finally tracked down a Bero display at the store—but he still had another obstacle to face.

Back in a parking lot, he explained that while his shopping trip was successful, he almost wasn’t allowed to purchase the beverage.

“They wouldn’t accept my ID because it’s English and I couldn’t prove my age, so a really lovely employee, I guess, scanned their ID,” Holland said, laughing.

“Kind of ironic that I wasn’t allowed to buy my own product,” he added.

Fans on Reddit sympathized with Holland’s plight.

“What other ID are you supposed to use if a passport doesn’t work??” one person wanted to know, adding, “I was alcohol trained at Disney World, and we were specifically told to only accept a passport from people abroad.”

“If he’s in LA I recognize that Target and they aren’t very nice there. They’re also insanely busy,” someone else shared.

“Yeah it sounds like based on what he said that they had to scan an ID for it to go through, and likely it won’t scan foreign IDs?” another commenter suggested. “Maybe for Target it’s less expensive to eat the cost of annoyed foreign customers who can’t buy alcohol than it would cost to incorporate a scanner that would interpret global IDs or something. Seems super annoying though lol.”

In October 2024, Holland opened up to Food & Wine about how his own sobriety journey inspired him to create Bero.

“I really felt like this was a market that I could exist in,” he said. “I felt really passionate about being sober, promoting a healthier lifestyle, making a difference and helping people. My first year of sobriety would have been much easier had I had a product like Bero.”

“I hope that one day it’s on tap in every pub across the country, and then hopefully the world,” Holland added. “Sharing a draft pint is a really special thing. I remember sharing my first draft pint with my dad. That would be a really special thing to be able to do with Bero.”
