Toronto could be in for a warmer-than-normal August, but there’s a catch, Canada Reviews

6 July 20262 Mins Read

We just crawled out of a heat wave, and the final full month of summer is already around the corner (yup, so soon). The forecast for next month? Toronto could be in for hotter-than-usual weather, but you’ll want to keep an umbrella nearby.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s latest seasonal forecast for July, August and September, Toronto has a 70 to 79 per cent probability of above-normal temperatures over those three months, compared with a 10 to 19 per cent chance of near-normal conditions and the same probability of below-normal temperatures.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac’s latest long-range forecast predicts that the average temperature across southern Ontario will be about 20 C in August, which is about 1 C above average in the western part of the region. But we can also expect some stormy weather in the mix: total precipitation for the month is forecast to reach 125 mm, which is 70 mm above average in the east and 20 mm above average in the west.

From Aug 1 to 9, which includes the Civic Holiday long weekend, the Almanac is calling for thunderstorms and warm temperatures across southern Ontario.

Sunny skies are expected for Aug 10 and 16, and although warm temperatures are forecast to stick around after that, this is when you’ll want to keep your umbrella on hand. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to return from Aug 17 to 21, and the same pattern is expected from Aug 22 to 26.

August could then end on a somewhat cooler note. From Aug 27 to 31, the Almanac is calling for thunderstorms in eastern parts of southern Ontario and sunny skies in the west, along with cooler temperatures.

The Weather Network’s Ontario summer outlook also points to an on-again, off-again season, with heat building at times but being interrupted by more days with showers and thunderstorms. If nothing else, just make the most of the sunny summer days while you can, perhaps with a day trip out of the city!
