Toronto could be in line for tts first MLB All-Star Game in nearly four decades, Canada Reviews

Toronto may be getting one of baseball’s biggest summer events back.

The Blue Jays are expected to host Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in 2029, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, though MLB has not officially announced the news yet.

If it happens, it will be the first time Toronto has hosted the event since 1991. That’s a 38-year gap, which feels especially wild considering how much the city and the Rogers Centre has changed since then.

The potential announcement also comes after years of the Blue Jays pushing to bring the event back to Toronto. Team president Mark Shapiro has lobbied MLB to return the All-Star Game to the city, and the Rogers Centre has since undergone a massive renovation that transformed the stadium into a much more modern space.

Toronto would join a lineup of cities already set to host. Chicago is getting the 2027 game, with San Francisco following in 2028. Baltimore is expected to host in 2030.

There’s also a little logistical strategy behind the 2028 choice. Baseball will be part of the Los Angeles Olympics that summer, with games at Dodger Stadium, so having the All-Star Game in San Francisco makes it easier for players involved in both events to get between the two cities.

If does end up happening in Toronto, an All-Star Game would bring some of baseball’s biggest names, a pile of events and plenty of out-of-town visitors to the city — all during the middle of summer.

MLB still has to make it official, but if Nightengale’s report is true, Toronto is about to get a very overdue baseball homecoming.
