Getting around Toronto this weekend might be more of an adventure than usual.
With significant TTC closures, service changes, construction detours, and multiple city events on the calendar, expect transit delays and road closures across the city — especially if you’re heading downtown.
Here’s everything you should be mindful of this weekend if you’re heading into the city:
TTC subway closures on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8
The Line 2 Bloor-Danforth will be closed between Woodbine and Broadview stations on Saturday and Sunday as crews complete track work.
Shuttle buses will run throughout the weekend to cover the gap, but Chester Station will be completely shut down.
The rest of the stations in the area will remain open for fare purchases and transfers to surface routes.
TTC staff will be there to assist customers who need a Wheel-Trans service.
TTC route changes due to construction
Several TTC buses and streetcar routes are taking alternate paths because of ongoing construction work:
- The 106 Sentinel bus will detour because of construction between Lamberton Blvd. and Streamdale Ct. Buses will run through Keele St., Broadoaks Dr., and Hucknall Rd. until 5 a.m. on July 26.
- The 72 Pape bus will reroute due to roadworks at Lake Shore Blvd. and Carlaw Ave. from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 6, until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10.
- The 161 Rogers Rd. will divert onto Ossington Ave. between Hallam St. and Ossington Station to accommodate a crane lift from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, until 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 8.
- 510/310 Spadina streetcars will go from Spadina Station to Spadina Ave. and Queens Quay for TTC infrastructure work on the Harbourfront Tunnel. The extended 509B buses will run to Union Station. This will remain in effect from 11 p.m. on Friday, June 6, until 4 a.m. on Monday, June 9.
Do West Fest road closures and transit delays
The much-loved Do West Fest returns this weekend, and it’ll close off a big chunk of Dundas St. W. between Lansdowne and Shaw starting Friday at 1 p.m.
While the festival activities wrap up at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, road closures will remain until midnight for the cleanup.
Toronto police say only north-south traffic will be allowed through major intersections like Lansdowne Ave., Brock Ave., Dufferin St., Dovercourt Rd., Ossington Ave., and Shaw St.
The TTC’s 505 Dundas streetcar will divert via College St. Nearby routes like the 29 Dufferin and 63 Ossington may be delayed.
Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women shuts down key downtown roads
The annual Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women will take over central Toronto streets on Saturday morning to support women’s mental health.
The event features a 5 K, 10 K, and a 1 K event for kids. The run begins at 7:40 a.m. and is expected to finish around noon, but road closures start at 7 a.m. and may affect early morning commutes.
Toronto police say there will be full and partial road closures:
- Surrey Place will be entirely shut down between Grosvenor St. and Grenville St.
- Grosvenor St. will close between Bay St. and Queen’s Park Crescent E.
- Both Queen’s Park Cres. E. and Queen’s Park Cres. W. will be fully closed.
- College St.’s westbound lanes will be off-limits from University Ave. to Spadina Ave.
- Spadina Ave.’s northbound lanes will be closed between College St. and Bloor St. W.
- Bloor Street W.’s eastbound lanes will shut down from Spadina Ave. to Bay St.
- Bay St.’s southbound lanes will be closed between Bloor St. W. and St. Joseph St.
- St. Joseph St.’s westbound lanes will close between Bay St. and Queen’s Park Cres. E.
- Wellesley St. W. will be closed entirely between Queen’s Park Cres. East and West.
Drivers should expect significant delays and consider alternate routes.
The TTC 13 Avenue Rd., 19 Bay, and 94 Wellesley buses will all be rerouted between 7 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
During the event, users may experience delays while travelling on the 506 Carlton and 510 Spadina routes.
More weekend events impacting transit
- Due to the Lakeshore Village Grilled Cheese Challenge, the 501 Queen and 507 Long Branch streetcar routes will be replaced by buses between the Humber and Long Branch loops from 5 a.m. on Saturday until 1 a.m. on Sunday.
- The Ride to Conquer Cancer will cause morning detours on routes including the 15 Evans, 48 Rathburn, 80 Queensway, and 123 Sherway from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
- The Portugal Day Parade will divert the 47 Lansdowne, 63 Ossington, and 512 St Clair streets along St. Clair Ave. W. from 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
- In Scarborough, the 116 Morningside will briefly reroute around Guildwood Pkwy. onto Kingston Rd. for the Guildwood Day Parade from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
With multiple events hitting the streets and key subway sections offline, it’s a weekend to plan ahead, check TTC alerts, or choose a car-free route.
Godspeed, Toronto!
