Toronto man on Canada’s most wanted list was just arrested in the US after 4 years on the run

1 September 20252 Mins Read

One of Canada’s most wanted fugitives has just been arrested in the U.S., the Toronto Police Service has announced.

43-year-old Kamar Cunningham, of Toronto, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals near Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday after four years on the run.

The Toronto police initially arrested Cunningham in June 2018 for his involvement in a criminal organization that trafficked firearms across the U.S. border.

He was found guilty of firearms trafficking, possession of prohibited or restricted firearms, and “participating in the activities of a criminal organization to enhance the ability of the organization to commit the offence of importing firearms.”

He did not appear at his sentencing hearing in May 2021, but was sentenced to nine years in custody in absentia.

Cunningham had been listed as #17 on the Bolo Program’s Canada’s 25 Most Wanted list, and there was a $50,000 reward for information that led to his capture.

His arrest comes just weeks after 28-year-old Dave “Pik” Turmel was arrested after an international manhunt that ended in Rome. Also on the Bolo list, the Quebec City native had been on the run for over 600 days.

Cunningham is being held pending extradition back to Canada.

In a post on X, the Toronto Police Service thanked the U.S. Marshals Service and its partners at Toronto Crime Stoppers and the Bolo Program for apprehending the Toronto native.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-2500, or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or on its website.
