Toronto radio host quits job to run in federal election

19 March 20252 Mins Read

A former Sportsnet radio host is taking a leave from the industry to try to run in the upcoming federal election.

On Tuesday, Greg Brady announced that he was temporarily stepping down from his role at the Corus Entertainment-owned AM 640 Toronto to seek a seat in Parliament in Ajax for the Conservative Party of Canada.

“Here is my announcement from Toronto Today with Greg Brady from this morning’s show. I’ll save the build-up. I am leaving the show and my amazing work family at 640 Toronto, and am seeking the candidacy for the Conservative Party of Canada, to run in my hometown of Ajax, Ont. My family, my friends, my community, and yes, Canada, and our future prospects… they mean everything to me,” Brady wrote on X.

Brady worked at Sportsnet from 2010 to 2019 as a host of various programs on 590 The Fan radio network. He has no prior experience in public office and has been with AM 640 since his departure from the sports media industry.

Brady offered some further insight as to why he opted to attempt a shift to politics.

“This isn’t about ‘leaving’ something — it’s about sprinting ‘towards’ something of critical importance. I believe we can right some wrongs in our country. I think we have had all the wake-up calls we need in the last four months and in the last nine-and-a-half years,” Brady added.

“There will be a lot to learn, a lot of new things to embrace, but I’m brimming with energy, confidence, and the belief that this is a great landing spot, and my firm belief that Pierre Poilievre will make a fantastic prime minister — and it is imperative for our future to do that work to make sure that happens.”

No official date has been set for the next federal election, though it is expected to be called in the coming months.
