After a particularly rainy and gloomy weekend, Toronto is set to see its temperatures swing by over 20 C just in time for the arrival of April.
However, don’t get too excited just yet, because this surge in temperatures is still going to be accompanied by lots of dreary, wet weather.
Following a blip of unseasonably warm weather in March, Toronto quickly returned to one-digit and sub-zero temperatures by the end of the month, and this time, it came with loads of freezing rain.
According to Environment Canada’s forecast for Toronto this week, temperatures will drop to -3 C on Monday. Temperatures will just barely climb on Tuesday and Wednesday, when we’ll see a high of 4 C and 5 C, respectively.
The real temperature swing will come on Thursday, when we’re forecasted to see a high of 18 C — representing a difference of over 20 C compared to Monday night. Still, the warm relief will quickly subside, as temperatures drop drastically by nightfall, when we’ll see a low of 1 C.
The saying “April showers bring May flowers” couldn’t be more accurate for this upcoming week, as Toronto is expected to see light rain and periods of showers on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday night into Sunday.
According to The Weather Network’s 2025 Spring Forecast, spring in Canada is consistently inconsistent, and temperature rollercoasters often tend to dominate the season. Meteorologists remind us that “spring is a season of transition” and that this period of time is notorious for “testing us and leaving us as winter returns to deliver a few final punches.”
Spring is forecasted to finally take hold in May, when temperatures will track warmer than normal across the province, including in Toronto. However, above-normal precipitation totals are expected, especially throughout April, which could delay the start of the spring planting season.
Although summer is most definitely on the horizon, we still have a few weeks of dreary weather to get through, so make sure not to stuff away your umbrella or rain jackets just yet.
