Torontonians are getting real about the best & worst parts of the city and it’s so relatable, Life in canada

12 May 20252 Mins Read

Living in any town or city has its pros and cons, and Toronto is no different.

There are many things to do in Toronto, including events, concerts, parks, amenities and festivals. But there are some drawbacks to living in the 6ix, including the age-old traffic problem.

We asked our followers on Narcity Canada’s Facebook page what they thought were some of the best and worst aspects of living in Toronto.

While there was a wide range of opinions, one thing that could easily be concluded is that Toronto’s food scene is amazing, but traffic is not so much.

One person commented: “Lived there for a short period. Best — a lot of the best restaurants in Canada are there. Worst — traffic/road construction.”

One user highlighted Toronto’s “decaying downtown area” as one of the major negatives about the city.

“Our streets are crumbling, especially at Yonge & Wellesley,” they said. “Our sidewalks are dirty. Our parks are full of homeless people in tents. I visited Chicago recently, and the downtown area was in excellent repair: smooth streets, clean sidewalks, a huge park without one tent and a few visible homeless people. Yes, Chicago.”

They continued: “As for the best? Toronto has terrific retail in Yorkville, fabulous restaurants, the ROM, the AGO, diversity and one can save a fortune by foregoing a car, using the TTC. I love it here.”

In Toronto, real estate can be a regular topic of discussion, which one user said is one of the worst aspects.

“As a regular visitor, I can say the worst is that people talk about real estate all the time, even at a Christmas Eve party! The best I would say is the Toronto Islands during summertime.”

“Best: Culinary diversity. Worst: Traffic gridlock,” another person wrote.

“Love the people and restaurants. Hate driving anywhere in the GTA,” a user said.

“The TTC is a joke, the GO Train is fabulous,” another said.

Traffic is about to get much worse over the summer as construction begins at King Street East and Church Street, meaning there will be service changes and detours for a few months.

While the food spots and restaurants continue to raise the bar, the bad traffic doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon.
