Toronto’s best skating rinks to glide into this winter

30 December 20254 Mins Read

The days between Christmas and New Year’s always feel a little softer. They’re made for hot drinks, good company, and the kind of winter activities that bring out your inner kid. And in Toronto, skating is at the top of that list. Whether you want skyline views or a chill neighbourhood vibe, these beloved skating rinks in Toronto are the perfect places to enjoy the season before the new year rolls in.

A beloved spot every year, the Barbara Ann Scott Ice Trail in Toronto’s College Park is illuminated with bright city lights for the perfect night skate.

Where: 420 Yonge St.

This figure eight-shaped trail is located right next to the Power House Recreation Centre near Humber Lakeshore campus. The Colonel Samuel Smith Skating Trail is a popular spot among locals, and it’s truly peaceful.

When: Nov. 29, 2025, 2025 to March 2026
Where:
65 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Rd.

Skate your way through snow-covered gardens under exposed beams from the roof of the old brick factory at The Evergreen Brick Works. Its outdoor skating rink officially opens on December 10th, offering the public free skating opportunities on select dates throughout the winter season.

When: Select dates
Where:
550 Bayview Ave.

It’s back! Hangar Skate is back at YZD (the former Downsview Airport lands) for its fourth year, and this time around, it’s bigger than ever. Running until Feb. 16, 2026, the rink will span a whopping 6,000 sq. ft.

When: Until Feb. 16, 2026
Where: YZD Plaza and Experience Centre — 34 Hanover Rd.

Now it’s time for you to hit the ice! Bring your own skates or rent from the Skating Hut. All of the rental proceeds go towards the Out of the Cold Program. Though walk-ins are available, book an online reservation to secure your spot.

When: Until Feb. 16, 2026
Time: Fridays from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Cost: Free

Mel Lastman Square transforms into the hub for all things winter. Its pond gets frozen to become an outdoor ice rink, and it’s a great spot to check out if you hope to avoid the downtown core.

When: Every day
Time: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where:
5100 Yonge St.

One of Toronto’s most beloved and iconic outdoor skating rinks is located at Nathan Phillips Square. Opening during the Cavalcade of Lights, Nathan Philips Square is sure to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors throughout the winter season for some skating action.

When: Until March 2026
Where: Nathan Phillips Square — 100 Queen St. W.
Cost: Free

The rink will be open daily until Jan. 4, 2026, from noon to 9 p.m., with rentals available from noon to 8 p.m. The Concession Stand, where you can grab a warm drink and snack, is also open daily from noon to 8:30 p.m.

After Jan. 4, from Jan. 5 to Feb. 16, winter skating will change its hours to Monday to Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from noon to 9 p.m.

During this time, skate rentals will be available on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and PA Days, from 5 to 8 p.m. Rentals won’t be available Mondays to Wednesdays after Jan. 4.
