Travel Tech Association (Travel Tech), the unified voice for the travel technology ecosystem, hosted a policy roundtable during the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit in Chicago, engaging directly with state legislators from across the country on the issues shaping the future of travel. At the event, Travel Tech members met with key state policymakers to talk through the fast-moving wave of state legislation on pricing, data, and short-term rentals.

Travel Tech was joined by a group of legislators whose work sits at the center of these debates, including Illinois Speaker Pro Tempore Kam Buckner, Connecticut Deputy Majority Leader James Maroney, and Virginia Senator Angelia Williams Graves.

The event centered on a wide range of policy issues affecting the travel technology industry, chief among them ongoing efforts by state legislatures to address surveillance pricing. On this issue, Travel Tech underscored the difference between genuine surveillance pricing that targets an individual using their personal data and the dynamic pricing the travel industry has long used, where fares and room rates change based on objective market conditions, like supply and demand and other market factors. Travel Tech also expressed support for short-term rental safety efforts such as human trafficking awareness training.

“Transparency, competition, and consumer protection are goals we share with the lawmakers in this room,” said Laura Chadwick, President and CEO of Travel Tech. “Creating opportunities for our member companies to engage directly with state policymakers is one of the core benefits of Travel Tech membership. Those conversations help industry and policymakers work together to protect consumers while preserving the innovation and competition that make modern travel possible.”

Travel Tech Association (Travel Tech) is the unified voice for the travel technology ecosystem. Travel Tech brings together enterprise leaders, growth-stage companies, and emerging innovators to advance public policies that support competition, innovation, and a strong technology-enabled travel marketplace. Through advocacy, regulatory intelligence, and cross-sector collaboration, Travel Tech helps shape the future of modern travel.
