There’s a new ranking of the best universities in the world that includes so many Canadian schools.

But the University of Toronto is the only post-secondary school in Canada to make the top 50.

Recently, the 2026 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities revealed the best post-secondary institutions for academics.

It’s based on six objective indicators, including the number of alumni and staff with Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate, the number of articles published in Nature and Science journals, and other criteria.

More than 2,500 universities are analyzed and ranked every year, but only the best 1,000 post-secondary schools make the final list.
