Things to Consider
When choosing where to go for Easter brunch, there are a number of things to consider. Below are a few of them.
Suggestions on Getting There
- Wherever you park, make sure you can stay for ample time so you’re not rushed. Put more money in the meter than you think you’ll need, or pay by phone so you can add time if needed.
- Is the venue close to public transit in case you want to leave the car behind? Downtown Vancouver venues are generally fairly convenient to get to.
- Are there interesting things to do in the area? If the weather is good, is there a nice place to go for a stroll either before or after your meal? Downtown Vancouver is full of interesting places to visit and walk around including the False Creek Seawall and Coal Harbour Seawall.
- Be sure to give yourself lots of time to get to your restaurant and find parking. The last thing you’ll want on Easter Day is a stressful start to your outing, so plan to arrive early (and then maybe go for a leisurely stroll beforehand).
Tips on Choosing Your Restaurant
TIP #1: What are the restaurant’s ratings? All of the restaurants we’ve listed above average a score of around 4 out of 5 or higher pretty consistently.
TIP #2: Does the price include taxes and tip? Taxes at most places are extra. Some places automatically add the gratuity to the bill, especially for groups of eight or more. With other places, for smaller groups, you can usually tip what you want, but not always. Either way, before paying your bill and adding your tip, make sure it’s not already included.
TIP #3: Are there kid-friendly menu items? Probably, especially if your child likes breakfast foods like scrambled eggs and pancakes. Some places offer extra favourites too, though, like chicken fingers and macaroni (which you might not normally associate with a fancy buffet).
TIP #4: Do very young children have to pay? It makes sense for children as young as 4 or so to have to pay half price, but should children as young as 2 or less have to pay that much too? In some cases, perhaps, like to compensate staff for all the food on the floor.
Other Things to Consider
TIP #5: Does the venue have set sitting times or can you make your reservation for a wide variety of times? Are they flexible if you need to be?
TIP #6: Some restaurants require a credit card at the time of the reservation and will charge it if you don’t show up. Ask the restaurant how far in advance you’ll need to cancel if necessary.
TIP #7: Are tea, coffee and juice included, or do you have to pay extra for them? Simple beverages are usually included in the price of the buffet, but not always. Alcohol and special drinks are always extra.
TIP #8: Are most people in your party big eaters? If not, then perhaps an à la carte menu venue would be better (unless, on average, you get more than your money’s worth because of a few extra hungry folks in your party).
TIP #9: Don’t forget that, along with Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday is the most popular time of the year for brunch buffets. Therefore, be sure to reserve your table well in advance (and especially so for the most popular venues, like the ones we’ve listed above).
