If bargain-hunting or uncovering pre-loved finds is right up your alley, it’s time to take your search to the front yard. Yes, Vancouver’s largest garage sale event, the Great Grandview Garage Sale, is back this June with a full afternoon of treasure hunting and community connection. It’s one of the city’s most beloved community-organized events, and you never know what you’ll discover here. A rare vinyl record, a book you’ve had on your list for years, a basil plant for your garden, or a new love seat. Not to mention, it’s a great way to pick up some essentials if you’re moving or planning to move soon.
Residents of the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood can choose to participate every year, setting up their yards, alleys, and driveways for an exciting day of perusing and catching up with neighbours.
The very first neighbourhood garage sale was in 2000, and started as a way to bring together residents who were having disputes about traffic calming, according to its website. Over two decades later, the annual sale has become a neighbourhood-wide tradition that residents and visitors alike look forward to.
“There have been a number of multi-family garage sales in Grandview Woodland over the years. The organizers of a few of those big sales joined forces in 2014 to begin putting on an annual Great Grandview Garage Sale,” organizers explain on the website.
If you’re planning to check it out, make sure you bring cash and plenty of bags and boxes to transport your new treasures.
When will the sale take place this year?
Note that the event will take place rain or shine on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A map of participating neighbours will be available this June, so stay tuned for those details to come!
