Vancouver’s largest farmers market brings over 60 vendors to this popular park every weekend

14 July 20263 Mins Read

Summer is by far the best time of year for perusing your local farmers markets, and the largest in Vancouver is at Trout Lake (John Hendry Park).

With over 60 local vendors lined up every Saturday, the Trout Lake Farmers Market has a little something to offer everyone, even if you’ve stumbled upon the market unexpectedly or weren’t planning on stocking up on anything. It’s a great place to pick up in-season, fresh B.C. produce, including summer berries, peaches, plums, and so much more.

You’ll also find an array of craft beverages and prepared bites, ranging from pesto and sourdough loaves to food truck eats, if you feel yourself getting hungry as you pick up your groceries.

Destination Vancouver adds that market-goers should keep an eye out for “chef-types,” as “you’re likely to see some of Vancouver’s best chefs picking up ingredients at this market.”

One of Canada’s largest farmers market organizations

Established in 1995 as a non-profit society in B.C., Vancouver Farmers Markets has blossomed into one of the largest and most vibrant farmers market organizations in Canada. According to a representative of the organization, the first farmers market was on July 29, 1995, then considered a “gala event” in the Cedar Cottage neighbourhood.

With 500 attendees, eight farmers, and 14 craft beverages, the market would later come to mark the beginning of a beloved new tradition, which only grew in size and scope over the years.
