Calling all Marshmallows: The private investigator who defined a generation is finally heading back to Netflix. After years of living exclusively on Hulu, the original three seasons of Veronica Mars have set a release date for the US service.
This addition marks another significant win from the Warner Bros. Television licensing vault, joining recent pickups seeing the return of The Following, The West Wing, and Prodigal Son. Plus, we’ve also got new shows that have never streamed on Netflix, such as Found.
Veronica Mars hasn’t been available to stream on Netflix in the US for well over a decade. It moved to Amazon Prime exclusively in the mid-2010s before jumping to Hulu. Its original run began on UPN in the mid-2000s and on The CW for its third season. Of course, the backstory behind its movie and revival season is equally as interesting as the show itself, given that it was one of the first shows to embrace social media and Kickstarter to get a revival.
That’s especially useful since the show even departed Hulu last year. Netflix confirmed, as part of its January 2026 slate reveal, that Seasons 1-3 of Veronica Mars will drop on Netflix US on Wednesday, January 14th. No word on how long it’ll stay on Netflix, but if it’s like The West Wing, it’ll probably be for around a year to 18 months.
The only catch is that the movie and the fourth season won’t be arriving. The movie currently resides on HBO Max, and the exclusive season is still locked to Hulu.
Created by Rob Thomas (iZombie, Party Down), Veronica Mars is a noir mystery wrapped in the guise of a high school teen drama.
Set in the wealthy, fictional seaside town of Neptune, California, the series stars Kristen Bell, the main star of Netflix’s comedy hit Nobody Wants This, as the titular character. This high school student moonlights as a private investigator under her detective father’s wing.
The series undoubtedly launched Bell’s career, which would go on to include The Good Place, Frozen, and Nobody Wants This. Also, almost the cast included Enrico Colantoni (Person of Interest) as Keith Mars, Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls, Percy Daggs III as Wallace Fennel, Francis Capra as Weevil, and, early on, Amanda Seyfried.
