W Hotels has completed a $100 million renovation of its New York Union Square property, updating the 256-room hotel with new design elements and amenities.
W Hotels has announced the completion of a major renovation of its New York Union Square property, involving a $100 million investment. The project encompassed a comprehensive redesign of the 256-room hotel, situated in the former Guardian Life Building, a Beaux-Arts-style property completed in 1911.
The W New York – Union Square renovation was led by the Rockwell Group, which was also responsible for the hotel’s original design in 2001. The updated design draws inspiration from the surrounding Union Square Park, with interiors that reflect the changing seasons and the dynamic energy of the neighborhood. The hotel’s Living Room, a modern take on the traditional hotel lobby, features high ceilings, intricate moldings, and design elements reminiscent of Grand Central Station.
The hotel now features a new Living Room Café, which serves coffee during the day and transitions into a cocktail bar in the evening. The former ballroom has been transformed into a signature Living Room space, featuring original architectural details, including white marble columns and Corinthian capitals.
Guest rooms have been updated with new design elements, including botanical-themed carpeting, curved walls, and velvet headboards. The rooms are equipped with modern conveniences, including Smart TVs and panel temperature controls. Bathrooms feature Italian bath products and Bluetooth speakers.
The renovation also introduced a new seafood brasserie named Seahorse, which is set to open in the fall. The restaurant, operated by John McDonald and Mercer Street Hospitality, will offer a menu focused on seafood and raw bar classics, with a capacity of 125 seats.
Additionally, the hotel has introduced a new rooftop bar designed by AvroKO, offering views of the New York skyline. The space is inspired by the area’s historical art and nightlife venues.
The hotel’s wellness facilities have been expanded with the introduction of a FIT gym, which includes a Peloton Studio. Meeting and event spaces have been updated to include 2,587 square feet of space, equipped with modern technology and furnishings.
