'Wednesday' Season 2 Ending Explained

3 September 202511 Mins Read

WARNING! This article spoils the events of Wednesday Season 2, now available for streaming in its entirety on Netflix. Please do not read further if you do not intend to know what happens in second half of Season 2.

It’s been a little under a month since we left Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), lying broken both physically and emotionally on a rainy night outside of an asylum. But it’s not long before the beloved protagonist is out of her coma, and ready to dive back into the mysteries that have captivated so many people in the hit Netflix series.

Part 1 of Season 2 came in hot, with a new serial killer on the loose, the identity of Wednesday’s stalker revealed, and the aforementioned breakout at Willow Hill letting several antagonists out into the wild. But Part 2, streaming now, certainly did not disappoint. Addams Family secrets were unearthed, mysterious characters got names and faces (sometimes quite literally) and, of course, it all was wrapped up with a delicious tease of what’s to come in the finale.

Here’s everything to know about the ending of Wednesday Season 2.

Wednesday Season 2 Ending Explained

Who is the patient Wednesday Addams freed in Wednesday Season 2?

In the midseason finale, Wednesday had discovered a secret plot to experiment on Outcasts to rob them of their powers and give them to “Normies.” One of the guinea pigs was a mysterious woman who the titular goth helped escape from Willow Hill. It’s not long into Part 2 that we get the answer as to who she is, though: Francoise Galpin (Frances O’Connor), the long-assumed deceased mother of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan).

Like her son, Francoise is an Outcast with the ability to transform into a beastly Hyde. Additionally, we discover in Episode 5 that she is a former friend of Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones). She brokers a deal with the Addams Family matriarch, helping stop Tyler’s attack on Wednesday and her friends in lieu of taking him and reuniting their family. That family reunion takes on a whole new meaning when her brother Isaac also joins the picture (more on him in a bit). But, soon after mother meets son, it’s revealed that her previous Hyde transformations have left her in critical condition, soon to meet her maker should she not find a way to lose her powers.

Who is the zombie “Slurp” in Wednesday Season 2?

The Season 2 premiere of Wednesday ended with a literal shocking twist, as Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) accidentally reanimated a corpse at Nevermore Academy. After spending some time raising him as a hybrid pet and friend, “Slurp,” as Pugsley calls him, ends up wreaking havoc before being detained at Willow Hill. It wasn’t long before he escaped, however and, interestingly, he seemed to be capable of some speech the more brains he consumed. Like Slurp, Wednesday fans began to know more as the season went along.

It turns out that Slurp is actually Isaac Night (Owen Painter), a former Nevermore student and best friend of Gomez (Luis Guzmán). Isaac was an incredibly gifted student, so much so that he had a secret lab built for him to carry out experiments. His chief experiment: Trying to remove his sister Francoise of her Hyde powers. To do that, he enlisted the help of an unaware Gomez, intending to sap all of his powers of electricity at the time to power his machine. Morticia intervened, stopping the experiment and saving Gomez’s life (but forever removing his powers). Isaac was killed in the explosion, and buried by the future Addams couple.

Now with a second chance at life, Isaac is quite literally bloodthirsty to get his experiment right. Throughout Part 2, he, Francoise and Tyler operate in the shadows to return to the school, kidnapping Pugsley as an adequate substitute for Gomez. Yet again, however, his plot is ruined by an Addams, as a last-minute intervention by mother and daughter alike put his plan up in smoke.

Where did Thing come from on Wednesday?

One of the most iconic characters from the original Addams Family, we have to give an absolute hand to the way Wednesday told Thing’s origin story. Throughout Season 2, it’s clear the disembodied hand was having a bit of an identity crisis, feeling increasingly distant from their family and increasingly curious about where they came from. And in the finale, Thing — and we — got that answer.

It turns out the reason why Thing is so closely connected to the Addams Family is because they were literally connected to one of their friends! Thing was actually the former hand of Isaac’s, which got dismembered when Morticia sabotaged his experiment. The jolt of power that came from the fray animated the appendage, gaining an identity as Thing. But when Isaac and company capture Thing, it isn’t long before hand and arm are reunited to carry out his grand master plan.

Unfortunately for Isaac, you can lead a hand to a diabolical machine, but you can’t make them be evil. As he chokes the life out of Wednesday, Thing eventually enforces their individuality, literally turning on their owner. After laying the smackdown on Isaac, Thing rips out his clockwork heart, killing the main antagnoist for good. Once his body hits the floor, Thing then crawls off of it, happy to have answered a big mystery, but ready to move on from their connections to an evil genius.

What is Principal Dort’s real story in Wednesday Season 2?

When Nevermore Academy reopened for the year at the beginning of Season 2, students were ushered in by a new principal: Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi). At first, he seemed like any good Buscemi character, a pyrokinetic eager in lighting Outcast school spirit ablaze. But as the semester begins, it’s soon revealed that he may have ulterior motives, particularly when it comes to seeking out Morticia’s mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), to donate to Nevermore at an upcoming fundraising gala.

That’s because, as it turns out, Dort is conducting a school-wide con job. We find out through flashback that he is actually the person behind the recently-busted Morning Song cult where Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday) and her mother escaped from. He made his way to Nevermore to conduct his biggest get-rich-quick-scheme yet, blackmailing Bianca into using her siren powers to convince Hester to give him his entire fortune, with which he’ll immediately take off with to Venezuela.

While Dort can definitely be said to have the power of persuasion, ultimately, he gets done in by someone who literally does. It takes a group of Nevermore students to outsmart the principal, distracting him with an impressive dance duet from Enid (Emma Myers) and Agnes (Evie Templeton). That allows Bianca to force Dort to tell the truth to everybody at the gala, exposing him as a fraud. Ajax (Georgie Farmer) soon turns him to stone, and a chandelier from above crushes his newfound statue form. We are now 2 for 2 on Wednesday seasons ending with a dead principal.

What happened to Tyler in Wednesday Season 2?

One of the biggest cliffhangers coming out of Part 1 was what would happen with Tyler no longer on the loose. After reuniting and subsequently killing his master, Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), Tyler took off into the night. Now masterless, he would theoretically become increasingly unstable. It wasn’t long, though, before he found himself back with his mother, simultaneously her prisoner as well as an accomplice to her and Isaac’s schemes.

As the experiment was about to occur, however, Tyler realized why his part in this was so important. It turns out that his mother wanted him to have his powers removed, feeling it was too late for herself, but not her son. As the havoc the Addams’ sabotage took effect, Tyler was yet again reunited with Wednesday. And, despite his insistence throughout Season 2 that he would kill her, she opted to take the path of non-violence, freeing him from his restraints.

Soon thereafter, Tyler faced off, for the second time in four episodes, against his mother in Hyde form. The two beasts tussled out the window and up to the top of Iago Tower. An explosion sent the two of them tumbling down, hanging on for dear life. And, while Tyler grabbed on successfully, Francoise chose to let go, dying from the fall. He had regained, then lost his mother again, in a matter of days.

Somehow, Tyler ends Season 2 even more aimless than halfway through. But he finds yet another new support system in Miss Capri (Billie Piper). Nevermore’s music teacher has her own history with Hydes, considering her father was one. So she opts to help Tyler, taking him to a group of people like him to transcend the need for a single master. Despite initially rebuffing her, the season ends with the two in a car, taking off for parts unknown.

What happened to Enid in Wednesday Season 2?

One of the major driving forces of Wednesday in Season 2 has been a premiere premonition. Wednesday saw a vision of Enid’s gravestone, with the werewolf declaring she was the reason that her roommate and best friend was dead. Wednesday chose to keep this secret her burden to bear, leading to an immense amount of strife between the two. Things hit their boiling point in Episode 6, when quite the Freaky Friday between the two allowed the truth to be revealed and the pair to finally reconcile.

Enid is dealing with her own changes in Season 2 — and we’re not talking puberty! When she ends up transforming one night without the full moon, Capri tells her she may be a rare “Alpha” werewolf. She is warned about the dangers that come with that, namely, if she transforms during the full moon, she stands a chance of staying in wolf form for good. Not only that, she would immediately turn from predator to prey, as other werewolves would instinctively hunt her down.

While Enid caged herself up from any shenanigans the night of the full moon, of course, they had to come her way. Isaac uses his psychic powers to throw Wednesday into an open grave, burying her alive. And so newfound friends Enid and Agnes try their best to dig through the dirt and save them. When their human efforts aren’t up to snuff, Enid makes the sacrifice play, transforming to give Wednesday the best chance of survival. She succeeds, but it comes at a great cost, as a seemingly-permanent wolf Enid takes off into the woods.

Once the dust settles from the climax of the episode, Wednesday finds out that Enid was spotted near the Canadian border, most likely heading north to escape the various werewolves that are chasing after her. And so, despite their troubles this season, she decides to live up to the promise she made: To track Enid down herself. After Nevermore closes, Wednesday sits sidecar with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Thing, taking off to try to rescue her, yet again, from a deathly fate.

What is going on with Aunt Ophelia in Wednesday Season 2?

Wednesday Season 2 clearly had a family theme to it. Not only were the rest of the Addams Family more incorporated into it compared to Season 1, but the secrets Morticia and Wednesday were keeping from each other spurred the plot along. One of those secrets was the fate of Aunt Ophelia. The mysterious member of the family has yet to be seen, but supposedly possessed similar powers as Wednesday’s before succumbing to a cruel fate.

In a gesture of candor, Morticia ends the season giving Wednesday Ophelia’s journal. She spends the motorcycle ride eagerly thumbing through it, find a number of mysterious drawings. She momentarily has a psychic flash, however, picturing a woman from behind with white hair. Despite never meeting her, she recongizes her as Aunt Ophelia.

While we don’t get a chance to see Ophelia’s face this season, the audience is clued in more as to what might be coming our way in Season 3. We see Hester go down to the depths of her palatial mortuary, into what seems to be a cell. The sight is not too unfamiliar from what Wednesday herself saw at Willow Hill. We see Ophelia as Wednesday saw her, sitting in a room, facing the wall. What’s more notable, however, is what’s scrawled on the wall in red.

WEDNESDAY MUST DIE

As has been the case with Wednesday so far, it seems that, yet again, we are in store for the idea that, if you’re seeking to solve questions, you may find an answer that puts you in more danger than you could ever know.
