What’s your favourite restaurant that’s been around for years? We want to know | Canada Voices

There’s a lot to love about restaurants that have made it to middle age: they’ve figured out their rhythm, they’ve nailed their menu, they’ve become neighbourhood fixtures. They’re the backbone of many cities’ dining scenes but rarely get much hype – it usually goes to the newest openings or hardest-to-land reservations. And we want to highlight these special spots across Canada.

The Globe and Mail would like to hear about your favourite local restaurants that have stood the test of time. These are spots that aren’t new or buzzy or on any recent “best of” lists, but that have become beloved neighbourhood institutions for their reliably great service and memorable dishes served with heart, instead of a flashy star.

We want to know about the family-run eatery in your area that is the go-to for birthday dinners. The restaurant you bring all your out-of-town guests to because the menu is never disappointing. The small bistro where you always feel at home and the owner knows everybody’s name. The place that introduced new foodways or flavours to your city and has everyone coming back for more.

Our guidelines:

  • Must be independently owned (not run by a restaurant group or franchise/chain)
  • Must be in business for at least eight years
  • Must be visited by the reader within the last year
  • Employees and owners (and relatives of owners) may not suggest their own restaurant

Share your story in the form below, or send us an e-mail at [email protected]. If you’d like to include a photo, submit it using this link.

Note: Suggestions must include the reader’s name and contact information to be valid and, if required, for fact-checking purposes. Please send submissions by April 19, 2026, 11:59pm EST.
