Is a river a living thing? In his latest book, author Robert Macfarlane sought to find the answer to this question. After hiking with experts and locals to three rivers, he concluded that rivers were, in fact, alive, and deserving of the same protections as a person.
Agree with him or not, it’s no question that the rivers that run through – or under – our homes, communities or favourite vacation destinations around the world are vital to their landscapes.
