Where to find high security lockboxes in The Outer Worlds 2

28 October 20258 Mins Read

A high security lockbox is a special, extremely rare crate in The Outer Worlds 2. There are many spread across the planets you visit, and each one holds a strong piece of gear or a top-tier weapon for your character. Although you can solve many situations in the game by talking your way out of trouble, you eventually have to fight, and having the best gear increases your chances of surviving every encounter.

Finding the lockboxes is only one part of the challenge, because opening them is also not that simple. But consider looking for every high security lockbox in The Outer Worlds 2 as part of the journey, one that we can guide you through. This is still a work in progress, but we will update it when we find more boxes.

How to open high security lockboxes in The Outer Worlds 2

Before you can start looking for high security lockboxes, you should know that advanced decryption keys are required to open them. Advanced decryption keys are rare items, and you can obtain them from multiple sources. Some are sold by vendors in major cities. Others are hidden in locked rooms or just lying around on the floor of a Protectorate facility.

You want to acquire as many advanced decryption keys as you can because you’ll need multiple to open one lockbox. The lowest quantity required for one box is four, but there are some that you can only open if you have eight advanced decryption keys.

To open a lockbox, visit your ship, and check the station with all the boxes next to the exit gate. You can choose which one you will open by pressing the arrow buttons beside the lockbox.
