Finding Mordrag in Gothic 1 Remake is far more useful than you might expect. Besides completing a fairly quick early-game quest that’ll impress an influential Old Camp figure, locating Mordrag unlocks a free guide to the New Camp and a ton of free experience and loot. This is one shady fellow you don’t want to miss.

How to start Mordrag’s quest in Gothic 1 Remake

Though he’s a member of the New Camp, Mordrag hangs around the Old Camp, where he tries to make money as a fence. To pick up the quest related to him, speak with Thorus, the Old Camp’s castle guard, and keep pressuring him to give you a job until you get the “Out of Sight” quest. To complete this quest, make sure that Mordrag never shows his face around the Old Camp again — by any means necessary.

Where to find Mordrag in Gothic 1 Remake

To find Mordrag, start from the Old Camp’s castle entrance as shown in the picture below (Thorus’ location, opposite the Old Camp’s north gate). From there, circle the castle clockwise, hugging the castle wall, until you reach the other side. You will pass Snaf (the cook) and the entrance to the arena along the way.

Mordrag is sitting on a bench on the right side of the road, opposite the Old Camp’s south gate. He’s right in front of the large campfire area with the many draperies (where you may have met people like Dexter, Fisk, and Baal Parvez).

Now that you’ve found Mordrag’s location in Gothic 1 Remake, feel free to peruse his wares. He mainly sells food, drinks, arrows, and lockpicks. If you decide to fight him and win (say “This camp is too small for the two of us”), you can rob him to obtain his ring, a long bow, and a sting mace (one-handed weapon). Speak with Mordrag afterward to get his promise that he won’t return to the Old Camp. This “Out of Sight” quest outcome will please Thorus the most.

Alternatively, you can ask Mordrag to show you the way to the New Camp. Pick the following dialogue options: “You have a problem,” “Say I wanted to join you guys,” and “Take me to the New Camp.” Follow Mordrag at a safe distance, and he’ll kill every monster on the way for you, which will get you a ton of free experience and loot. Note that Mordrag may get slain by monsters, in which case you can loot his body, but if Mordrag survives (which is more likely), he’ll give you his ring when you both arrive at the New Camp (though not his weapons), along with the promise that he won’t return to the Old Camp. This way, you can complete the “Out of Sight” quest without bloodshed. Thorus is less impressed, but still happy with this outcome.

Mordrag’s ring grants +5 dexterity. Instead of keeping it, you can also use the ring to gain access to Lares, the bandit leader at the New Camp. Without the ring, his guard won’t let you pass. Once he’s left the Old Camp, Mordrag will relocate to the New Camp’s tavern (the building on the lake).
