To find the missing lil’ frog in Mina the Hollower, you must discover a hidden area in Nox’s Bayou and carry the little fellow back to his bandmates in the swamp. It’s not easy to do, but this walkthrough will show you the way — beware that there’s a significant amount of frog-yeeting involved.
Here’s where to find the missing lil’ frog’s location in Mina the Hollower.
Where to find the missing lil’ frog in Mina the Hollower
When you arrive in the Backwaters: Shanty Swamp (coming from the Western Wilds), you will find a large lake with several wooden platforms, circling in a clockwise direction. On the north side of this lake, speak with the three NPCs (Stan, Zach, and Gumbo) to learn about their missing band member and amphibious composer, described as a lil’ frog. They will inform you that their friend wandered off into the Bayou, the purple watery region further west.
Do not confuse the missing frog with Buffo or Lucky, who are found in the chamber directly north of the band and the cavern below the Boat Bog, respectively. These two are different (and way too large) frogs!
To enter the Bayou, leave the large lake area to the southwest:
To find the missing little frog, you must first clear the Nox’s Bayou region by defeating Nox’s Beast and restoring the spark generator. This, of course, may take a while. Once that’s done, exit the spark generator room to the south, returning to the Boat Bog.
In the next room, you must exit in the northwest. Although it looks like you can’t reach that tile, there’s a secret path behind the waterfall. Climb down the rope, then go left and burrow upward. In the next room (The Forgotten Fen), you’ll find the missing band member, the lil’ frog, in a bucket.
Now you must bring him back to his bandmates in the swamp.
How to bring the little frog to the swamp in Mina the Hollower
To pick up the frog, burrow underneath him. If you throw the frog into the water, he’ll float in a straight line until he hits land. So, to cross this room to the west, throw the little frog to the next platform, then jump and burrow after him (you can’t burrow while holding the frog).
Sometimes, as shown in the picture below, you can’t throw the frog directly toward land. That’s okay; just throw him as close to land as possible, then jump after him, burrow underneath, and jump onto land while holding the frog. In other words, do the same thing as always while crossing large bodies of water, but end the burrow-swimming move while underneath the little frog.
While floating, the little frog can remain stationary for about five seconds before he sinks. When he’s about to sink, he’ll start shaking, and if you’re too late, he’ll respawn in a nearby location (closer than the original spawn point).
As there’s no other way to go, you will leave The Forgotten Fen to the southwest and loop back toward the east. In the room with the insects, throw the frog across the gaps (you can throw him a distance of three tiles), then dispose of the enemies. You can also throw the frog bucket directly against enemies to deal damage, but be careful you don’t miss and accidentally send the poor critter into the void. If the little frog lands just across a gap, blocking your jump, hit him with your main attack to push him three tiles further (he won’t mind).
The path will lead you back to the Boat Bog. This time, exit to the southeast. Be careful; if the enemies in the purple area hit you, you may fall down the ledge without the frog. If that happens, leave the room to the south, then circle back into the same room through the southwest entrance.
Keep going east until you’re back at the Backwaters: Shanty Swamp, and be sure to take the northern path in this room:
In the large lake room, jump across the barrier to the north, then throw the little frog onto a moving platform. Jump after him, pick him up, and jump off at the location of his bandmates (beware of the green bug).
And that’s it! Speak to the little frog (whose name turns out to be Cliff) and his band members to complete this Mina the Hollower side quest. You’ll be rewarded with the Tumbling Tutu trinket, which unlocks a spinning attack. If you speak with the band members again, they will ask you for a donation of 100 bones; if you give it to them, it’s strongly hinted that you’ll see the band perform at the Music Hall in Ossex later on. Be sure to leave this location before exiting the game, to ensure that your progress has been saved.
