How did Kirk Cousins and Julie Hampton Cousins meet?
Kirk Cousins and Julie Hampton Cousins met through a family friend in 2012, according to The Washington Post. He proposed the following year after a year and a half of dating.
“I was extremely nervous,” Kirk told WaPo in 2013. “On the way down driving the car, as we got close to the Capitol building I was holding her hand and she goes, ‘Why are your hands cold and sweaty?’ I said, ‘I don’t know,’ but I knew it was because I was super nervous.”
Explaining how he popped the question, he continued: “I just mentioned the view, and told her how we’d gotten to know each other in this city and how we had good memories when we used to walk through the city on some of our earlier dates. I went down a knee before it got too sappy, before it got too awkward. I don’t remember exactly what she said, but she said yes. That’s all I needed to hear.”
What does Julie Hampton Cousins do for a living?
Julie and Kirk run the Julie and Kirk Cousins Foundation, which works with a variety of other organizations, including City of Refuge, International Justice Mission, Sacred Roots and more.
The twosome also own a golf course together in Saugatuck, Mich.
“Our family recently purchased the Clearbrook Golf Course from our friends and longtime owners, Jim and Candy Jeltema,” they said in a statement via the Holland Sentinel in 2022.
“We want to invest in this great community, and we see this purchase as an opportunity to do just that, maintaining the life of a golf course that has been in place since 1926.”

The pair tied the knot in June 2014.
In an interview after a practice in 2016, Kirk explained that he was one of the few professional football players to sport his wedding ring while playing.
