Lady Gaga, who released her latest album titled Mayhem on March 7, is now finding herself in the crosshairs of a Southern California surf brand, which filed a $100 million lawsuit against the “Abracadabra” singer for copyright infringement.
The suit was filed March 25 in California district court, according to Fox Business.

The name Mayhem has been used by Matt Biolos, the founder and co-owner of Lost Surfboards, for years. It was his high school nickname, and he developed the logo in 1986 for his punk band. A year later, he started using it on surfboards, according to Surfer Today. In the suit, Biolos claims that his company’s logo was trademarked 10 years ago.
“Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM soared to No. 1 and shattered records, a testament to her unmatched talent and global impact,” her attorney Orin Snyder said in a statement, per Fox Business. “It’s disappointing — but hardly surprising — that someone is now attempting to capitalize on her success with a baseless lawsuit over the name MAYHEM. This is nothing more than an opportunistic and meritless abuse of the legal system.”
The lawsuit claims that “Lady Gaga has unilaterally, and without Lost’s permission or knowledge, attempted to misappropriate the ‘Mayhem’ name, trademark, and stylized mark by releasing an album entitled ‘Mayhem,’ launching a tour with that same name, and selling clothing and accessories with that name.”
Parade has reached out to Gaga’s camp and Biolos for comment.
On March 24, Biolos posted a video of some of his surfboards with the Mayhem logo on Instagram but made no mention of the lawsuit.
