Why Lindsay Lohan's Net Worth Took a Nosedive and What She's Worth Today

9 August 20257 Mins Read

For years Lindsay Lohan was a Hollywood cautionary tale: a child star turned tabloid fixture who apparently lost most, if not all, of her net worth in her downfall. But with three Netflix movies out in the span of two years and the sequel to her 2003 hit Freaky Friday in theaters now, the aughts icon is enjoying a career resurgence. Is her bank account on the up-and-up as well?

Keep reading to find out what Lohan’s net worth is today and how much she made during her (initial) heyday.

How did Lindsay Lohan get her start?

Now 39, Lohan, a native of Long Island, New York, has been working for most of her life. She started out as a child model, starring in campaigns for the likes of Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie & Fitch, and made the leap to movies at age 11, in Nancy Meyers’s The Parent Trap. On casting Lohan, producer Charles Shyer, Meyers’s ex-husband and co-writer of the film, said that they saw “a lot of kids” for the lead roles but knew Lohan was it “within two or three minutes” of meeting her. (Meanwhile, The Parent Trap was the first movie Lohan had ever auditioned for.)

“We discovered a big star,” Meyers added. “We discovered somebody that everybody fell in love with.”

With the success of the 1998 movie, Disney snatched Lohan up for a suite of projects, including Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. She was off to the races.

What is Lindsay Lohan’s net worth in 2025?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lohan is worth $2 million, an admirable amount for a normie her age but nothing for a star of her caliber who’s been working since before she hit puberty. Her wealth took a nosedive in the mid-to-late-aughts, when she started having lifestyle-related financial troubles. But with the release of Freakier Friday as well as her Netflix movies Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret, Lohan’s net worth, like her star, is hopefully back on the rise.

Is Lindsay Lohan’s husband a billionaire?

Lohan is married to Dubai-based financier Bader Shammas, who’s reportedly worth $100 million, although that number has not been confirmed by a reputable source. Regardless, it’s unclear how Shammas and Lohan, who married in 2022, combined their assets or whether they have a prenup.

What was Lindsay Lohan’s net worth at its highest?

It’s hard to pinpoint Lohan’s peak net worth, but we know that at the height of her career (so far!), she was making up to $7.5 million a movie. (That was her reported salary for Herbie: Fully Loaded, Just My Luck and Georgia Rule, which came out in 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively.) According to Forbes, she pulled in $11 million in 2004 alone.

How did Lindsay Lohan lose her net worth?

Only Lohan and presumably an accountant or two know the exact missteps that led to the famous red-head’s financial fallout, but the overarching problem seems to be that she spent more money than she had during a period of her life that could best be described as tumultuous. The downfall started in 2006, when Lohan stepped — nay, sprinted — into the Los Angeles nightlife scene. (That was the year she was photographed with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, a hard-partying crew dubbed “the Holy Trinity.”) By the following year, the Mean Girls star had entered rehab for the first time (there would be at least a second, third, fourth and fifth stint), and her legal troubles (DUIs, shoplifting) began in earnest, putting a massive dent in her bank account.

As Lohan’s expenses went up and her reputation went down, she found herself losing work and income.

Was Lindsay Lohan in debt?

Lohan publicly faced debt on several occasions, including from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In 2012, she reportedly owed $233,904 in unpaid federal taxes from 2009 and 2010, prompting the government agency to seize her bank accounts. Prior to that, they’d put a lien on her Encino home to resolve $94,000 in taxes owed from 2009. Cut to 2017, and a tax lien was filed against her for $100,710.55 for unpaid taxes from 2019, 2014 and 2015. Then there was the trouble she faced from landlords, one of whom petitioned the court to push her into bankruptcy if she failed to pay £77,600 owed on a luxury flat in London.

It’s unclear how any of these debts were resolved, but one thing was certain: Lindsay Lohan was broke.

Why did Oprah give Lindsay Lohan money?

Technically, Oprah was paying Lohan in exchange for something. In 2013, she shelled out $2 million for the starlet’s first post-rehab interview plus her participation in an eight-part docuseries about her attempted career comeback. Lohan’s compensation for the series, Lindsay, which aired on OWN in 2014, also included two assistants and a stylist.

Did Lindsay Lohan get paid double for Parent Trap?

No, despite playing both Hallie and Annie Parker in the movie, Lohan was paid only one salary (that’s how it works, people!). But hilariously, in 1998 she told former Disney CEO Michael Eisner that she should have been paid double for the project. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she recalled meeting Eisner at the premiere and him asking her where her twin was. “I was so young, I don’t even know how I thought to say this, but I’ll never forget what I said,” she told Cohen. “I said, ‘Well you should’ve paid me double, because I don’t have one.’

The Parent Trap made six times its $15 million budget at the global box office.

How much did Lindsay Lohan make for Freaky Friday?

Lohan’s paycheck for Freaky Friday, which came out in 2003, was $550,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth, although that doesn’t account for any backend points she may have negotiated. Plus, the movie also got her a lifetime friendship with co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, which is priceless.

“One thing Jamie said to me that sticks with me whenever I go to set — the first thing I think about and will always keep with me — is that she said, ‘Remember, when you go to your set, however you show up that day is the way that everyone else is going to feel on that set,’” Lohan shared on TODAY. ‘“So always bring a positive energy, positive mindset, positive attitude to the people that you work with.’”

How much did Lindsay Lohan make for Freakier Friday?

Lohan’s Freakier Friday payday has not been revealed, but she reportedly earned $550,000 for the original and it’s fair to assume she earned way more than that for the sequel. (For more context, she got paid $500,000 for just a cameo in the Mean Girls movie musical that came out in 2024.)

What did Lindsay Lohan get paid for Mean Girls?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lohan was paid $1 million for Mean Girls. It’s unclear what she made on the backend, but seeing as the movie grossed $130 million worldwide, it was probably a good chunk of change.

How much did Lindsay Lohan get paid for Herbie: Fully Loaded?

Following Mean Girls, Lohan’s salary took a huge leap in 2005 with Herbie: Fully Loaded, for which she was reportedly paid $7.5 million. That was also her reported payday for Just My Luck (2006) and Georgia Rules (2007).

Does Lindsay Lohan have a contract with Netflix?

Following the success of Netflix’s Falling for Christmas in 2022, Lohan signed a two-picture deal with the streamer for an undisclosed amount. Irish Wish and Our Little Secret out in 2024, and it does not appear that Lohan is signed on for more Netflix projects at the moment.

What is Lindsay Lohan’s highest grossing movie?

Lindsay Lohan’s highest-grossing movie is Mean Girls, which pulled in $130 million worldwide on a budget of about $18 million.

“She was very skilled in the sense that, if you asked her to do something specific, she could just nail it,” director Mark Watersonce recalled of working with her. “I mean, she was just immediately able to translate anything you said. It’d be like: Boom, here it is! Like a gymnast.”
