Ahead of the Golden Globes, Plaza was scheduled as a presenter alongside a slew of celebrities, including Glenn Close, Elton John, Nicolas Cage, Gal Gadot, Kathy Bates, Jennifer Coolidge and more. Other presenters announced include Andrew Garfield, Kaley Cuoco, Kate Hudson, Anthony Ramos, Salma Hayek Pinault, Kerry Washington and Awkwafina, among many others.
Presumably, Plaza will not present at the 2025 Golden Globes as she mourns the death of her husband. The award show did not announce whether she would ahead of its 8 p.m. ET start at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
On the morning of Friday, Jan. 3, Baena, 47, was found dead in this Los Angeles home. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a suicide.
Plaza, 40, and her director/screenwriter husband started dating in 2011 and secretly married in 2021. Through the years, she and Baena worked together on several films, including Life After Beth (2014) and Joshy (2016).
Additionally, Baena was known for The Little Hours (2017), Horse Girl (2020) and Spin Me Round (2022). He also co-wrote I Heart Huckabees (2004), which was nominated for Best Feature at the Gotham Awards.
As of writing, Plaza has not publicly commented about her husband’s death.
