Will there be a Peacemaker season 3? Here’s what James Gunn says

10 October 20253 Mins Read

Peacemaker season 2 ended with a cliffhanger, which showrunner James Gunn says sets up the future of the DCU. That plot will play out in the 2027 film Man of Tomorrow, but what are Gunn’s plans for the Peacemaker series and the 11th Street Kids? Will there be a Peacemaker season 3? Here’s everything we know.

[Ed. note: Full spoilers below for the end of Peacemaker season 2]

So will there be a Peacemaker season 3?

Short answer: maybe.

Gunn began the latest episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with a surprising statement: “This is the final episode of Peacemaker season two; maybe the final episode of Peacemaker.”

Later on in the podcast, he clarified that statement.

“We are true believers in Peacemaker the television show and these characters,” Gunn said. “Peacemaker will be back. As this TV show? We’ll see exactly what form. We have plans, but you’ll see all these characters in the future of the DCU, and not too long.”

Speaking to Deadline, Gunn also offered a slightly more definitive answer:

No, this is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.

In the same podcast episode, Gunn also revealed his first draft for the season 2 finale ended with what he calls “the happiest montage I’ve ever shot in my entire life” as the 11th Street Kids use the money Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) confiscated from criminals he beat up to start their own spy agency called Checkmate. It’s a scene that could serve as a happy ending for all the characters involved, who have found a way to put aside their past misdeeds and work together with the goal of making the world better.

Gunn turned that script into his DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, but then suggested adding on more of a connection to Salvation, the planet ARGUS intends to use as a metahuman prison. The final version ends with Chris Smith (John Cena) stranded there and reveals that Salvation is populated by unseen beasts that make what Gunn describes as “hellish squeals,” providing further fuel to the idea that they are mons. Gunn also added in Eagly giving John Economos (Steve Agee) a hug to reassure viewers that the bird would be well taken care of even if Chris is stuck on another world.

Cena hopes that somehow some of the band is getting back together because he loves making the show. Gunn is also deeply passionate about Peacemaker, and told Deadline that his goal is to make the character as important to the DCU as Batman, whether or not he gets a third season.

“He’s really important to me,” Gunn said. “Peacemaker is an important character. I said from the beginning when we took on this job, it’s about really propping up and maintaining and repositioning. The big diamond properties that DC has, the Batmans and Wonder Womans and Supermans, and then creating diamond properties out of the smaller characters like Peacemaker.”
