The Muttart Conservatory brings life to Edmonton during the winter, but it continues to bloom during the summer. This season, there’s a whole bunch of events and activities to look forward to in the pyramids, and we can’t wait.
If you aren’t familiar with the towering pyramids in the city, let me introduce you. These pyramids are home to over 700 different kinds of plant species, all within the botanical gardens in four unique pyramids. Here, you’ll be surrounded by music, nature and beautiful works. According to the City of Edmonton, the Muttart is actually home to the city’s biggest indoor plant collection.
We’re here to highlight some of the exciting events coming up this season at the conservatory. Whether it’s Winnie the Pooh madness or an intimate yoga vibe, there’s a little something for everyone.
What’s the Muttart Conservatory’s feature pyramid?
First things first, the feature pyramid is so much fun this season. For $14.95, you’ll be able to get general admission into the pyramids, which include the Tropical pyramid, the Arid pyramid, the Temperate pyramid, and the feature pyramid: Hundred Acre Wood.
This new feature pyramid will be around from now until Sept. 13. Hundred Acre Wood is nothing short of a storybook brought to life. Featuring Winnie the Pooh and all of his fantastical friends, you’ll be able to have your daily dose of adventure right here.
What’s going on at the Muttart Conservatory?
As for actual events and activities happening at the conservatory, there’s a whole lot on the schedule.
Our personal favourite program out of the bunch is Flow and Bloom yoga. This 60-minute, all-levels flow-style practice is meant to energize the mind and body. You’ll be accompanied by a live soundscape to make the experience all the better. It’s recommended to bring your own mat, but extras are available if needed.
If the soundscape sounded interesting, there’s some good news for you. There’s actually a sound bath event in the pyramids you can sign up for!
As described by the City, “Facilitators Meghan and Daren will curate a dreamlike soundscape featuring an array of instruments, including crystal singing bowls, gong, monochord, ocean drum, singing pyramid, chimes and more.”
You might be more interested in the plants themselves instead of the events, and we wouldn’t blame you. That’s why these Behind the Scenes tours will be right up your alley. With this opportunity, you’ll be able to see the five different greenhouses and learn about all the hard work that goes into managing the plants.
