Witcher: Legacy board game promises to unravel a tantalizing mystery

31 July 20252 Mins Read

The Witcher 4 won’t arrive until at least 2027, but in the meantime, studio CD Project Red is working with Go On Board to create a new board game based on the hit series. The Witcher: Legacy is a follow-up to 2023’s The Witcher: Old World, which was one of the biggest tabletop crowdfunding campaigns of all time. As of today, you can pledge your support for Legacy on Gamefound.

“Over the years of working on The Witcher board games, we’ve built a huge and incredibly engaged fanbase,” game designer and Go On Board co-founder Łukasz Woźniak said in a statement. “We’ve been working on The Witcher: Legacy for over three years, during which our main focus has been listening to the needs and expectations of our community, to create the biggest and best Witcher experience a board game can offer.”

A cooperative adventure game for one to four players, The Witcher: Legacy will focus on the events that led to the fall of the School of the Wolf. Players will take on the role of witchers seeking to unravel the conspiracy against their order, fighting monsters and exploring the kingdom of Kaedwen through a branching narrative featuring multiple scenarios.

”We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Go On Board again on a board game project,” CD Projekt Red vice president of business development Jan Rosner said in a statement. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to expand a universe beloved by many and dive deeper into events that haven’t yet been fully explored in the games or books.”

The destruction of the School of the Wolf was previously explored in Netflix’s anime The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which followed Geralt of Rivia’s mentor Vesemir. Hopefully that means Vesemir will also be a playable character in the board game like he is in Go On Board’s The Witcher: Path of Destiny, a competitive game released earlier this year.

Go On Board also worked with CD Projekt Red on their highly successful adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, which raised over $9.5 million in crowdfunding, and is developing on a board game based on the Tekken fighting game franchise.
