Wordle is Becoming a Game Show Thanks to This Beloved Late-Night Host

7 October 20252 Mins Read

How did you do on today’s Wordle? Now picture that brain workout on an all-new TV show.

The daily trivia game that attracts billions of plays each year is now being lined up for television, Deadline reports.

NBC piloting a game show based on the New York Times game with Savannah Guthrie hosting, Deadline also noted on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Plus, Jimmy Fallon is involved, as his Electric Hot Dog company is producing with Universal Television Alternative Studio and The New York Times.

The newspaper acquired Wordle — which was created by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle — in 2022. Last year, it was played 5.3 billion times, up from 4.8 billion plays in 2023, according to Deadline.

Fallon, 51, already has three other NBC game shows on the air:

  • On Brand
  • Password
  • That’s My Jam

Additionally, the funnyman has certainly had some standout Tonight Show tapings of late. In addition to welcoming Doja Cat as a hilarious co-host on Oct. 1, Taylor Swift just appeared on the show for an interview this week.

Fallon has admitted in the past that he’s addicted to Wordle, which gives players six attempts to guess a five-letter word, receiving feedback through colored tiles that indicate correct letters and their placement (as fans well know). A puzzle is released daily with all players around the world as they put on their thinking caps solve the same word.

If you’re perhaps equally obsessed with Wordle as Fallon, check out Parade‘s list of 15 other word games here to further fill your brain game cravings.

Another exciting game show was announced on Tuesday. Netflix is bringing the world of Clue to life in a new unscripted competition series inspired by the beloved board game and 1985 cult-favorite film, according to Deadline. The streamer has officially greenlit Clue, a reality-style game show that transforms the iconic murder mystery into a high-stakes challenge of brains, strategy and deception.
