Workshops (Edmonton): Improv Therapy – Grindstone Theatre School, Theater News

4 July 20262 Mins Read

The Grindstone Theatre School is partnering with Anthony Goodwin to put on an Improv Therapy Workshop, and you are invited!

Improv Therapy With Still Listening Therapy

3 Sessions on July 18th, July 25th, and August 1st, 2026 from 5:00-8:00pm.
Instructor: Anthony Goodwin
Ages: 18+
No Experience Required
Price: $175

An experiential workshop in connection, play and storytelling

What happens when improvisation and therapeutic practice are brought together?

Led by improviser and Counselling Therapist Anthony Goodwin, this three-part workshop uses structured improv exercises, embodied activities, storytelling, discussion, and reflection.

Drawing on established practices from improvisation, community-based theatre, experiential learning, and therapy, participants will practise listening, spontaneity, empathy, perspective-taking, and working safely with vulnerability.

Each activity creatively explores lived experience, followed by group reflection on how it connects to our values and patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, and relating. Through trust, play, and shared exploration, participants can risk being seen as they are and explore their capacity for connection, change, and growth.

This practical group workshop uses improv and storytelling to build community and strengthen authenticity, empathy, self-awareness, and confidence in how we relate to ourselves and others.

Anthony is an expat Aussie Counseling Therapist with many years experience in community in social services and currently doing work in crisis, addictions and trauma therapy. He has a lifetime passion for theatre, storytelling and is an Improv nerd. His approach to therapy and teaching is blended with his past life as an actor and improviser, training at the Actor’s Centre and with Impro Melbourne. Anthony thinks he’s funnier than you. He will eventually corner you at a party and insist on singing the Rainbow connection in his impeccable Kermit voice.
